Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Urias.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started a multicultural advertising/PR firm in 2006, Urias Communications, after more than 12 years in international marketing. While there were a number of professional ad agencies in the region, none were focused on the burgeoning multicultural markets, particularly Hispanics, during that time.
Since then, our agency merged with a prestigious Government Affairs firm, Molera Alvarez Government Affairs to create CoNecs North America. Our agency has expanded significantly and provides brand management, PR and public affairs services to major brands including Coca-Cola, U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, APS, Dignity Health and various others. Today, CoNecs North America is one of the most respected agencies in the U.S. Southwest.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are always struggles when starting a business. We faced our greatest struggles during the recession – from 2008-2010 – when many corporations pulled back significantly on their budgets. That was a tough time but we made it through without losing any clients.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with CoNecs North America – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
As a brand management firm, we specialize in branding companies – helping them find the core of their brand – and then keeping that brand in strong standing position. This includes creating authentic, effective ad campaigns that connect with various consumer markets and providing strong monthly public relations and social media services.
We always take multicultural or cross-cultural markets into consideration for a total market approach. In today’s changing world, you cannot leave those markets aside. They’re far too important and too much a part of today’s media landscape. Our campaigns resonate to create not just brand recognition, but brand embrace.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Phoenix is young, easy to access, and beautiful. We have two climates in the metro-Phoenix area, beautiful and hot. I love the energy that ASU Downtown has brought to the city and our arts & cultural scene is growing tremendously.
We’ve always had great jazz and great art spaces, but it’s getting bigger and better than ever. What I like least is lack of investment in our P-20 public education system, and the air quality – we need to fix those things.
