Meet Lisa Andrews of This Travel Tribe in Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Andrews.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My wanderlust was developed as a child when my parents, four younger siblings, and I would pack up in our suburban and go on a long road trip each summer. We spent time exploring our home state of Arizona plus many of the western states. We loved the beach in Carlsbad, CA, seeing the hot pots and geysers in Yellowstone, and hiking in the Grand Tetons. I’ll be forever grateful to my parents for instilling a love for exploring and discovering new places as one of my passions.

Now that my husband and I have three fabulous teens, we work to instill values of curiosity, kindness, bravery, and gratitude in our kids through our travels. Our family of five has had the opportunity to explore much of the United States and beyond since our kids were little. Traveling with kids at any age is special, but I’ve got to admit that I really love traveling with teens. They can pack (& carry!) their own bags, help navigate, and have input on places and things they want to do and see while we explore.

As our family has many travel opportunities, I wanted to be able to share things we’ve learned while encouraging others to get out, explore and make memories with their families. In the fall of 2018, I had inspiration strike and felt that I should start a podcast focused on family travel. It has been a wonderful first-year journey learning all about podcasting, connecting with others who are passionate about exploring with their families, and helping others share their travel knowledge, stories and inspiration.

Has it been a smooth road?
My background is in elementary education and I’ve always enjoyed learning new things but starting a podcast came with a huge learning curve. Of course, there have been technical things to learn and overcome. I think that along with any challenge comes the joy in figuring things out and seeing things I’ve worked on hopefully help others. Without struggling, I wouldn’t really have the satisfaction I feel when I see a new podcast go live. I know all about finding guests, researching topics, creating episode outlines, interviewing people, helping shine a light on other’s stories, creating artwork, promoting the podcast, writing show notes, and editing each episode. It can be a balancing act along with family and community things I also like to participate in. There are definitely moments when I ask myself if the time and effort are worth it. Then I get to hit play and start recording a new podcast episode while talking with someone new, learn more ideas about connecting with my family and I feel like it really is worth it.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
This Travel Tribe is all about sharing ideas with families on ways they can get out and explore together. Some of these adventures are day trips, local outings, or big family vacations. I hope to inspire families to make plans to do things together and then get out and enjoy time together. This inspiration is shared both on our This Travel Tribe Podcast and our Instagram account.

Our podcast specializes in sharing both destination based episodes such as Everything Your Family Should Do in Baltimore or The Things Your Family Won’t Want to Miss in Philadelphia. I find local experts who share the best places to see, explore, eat, and discover in their cities. It’s a perfect travel guide to help families plan their next vacation to a particular location.

There are also many episodes with family travel topics that I’m passionate about such as Why Parents Should Travel Without Their Kids, How to Save Cash on a Hawaiian Vacation, How to Plan an Epic Trip with Teens, How to Have Enough Money to Travel and Practical Tips for Creating the Best Road Trip for Your Family.

My goal is to have someone listen to a podcast episode or read an Instagram post and be inspired to take an idea and use it to create a cool experience and memory with their family.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Mesa & GIlbert are fabulous places for a business like mine! There are so many kinds and genuine people who live here who are willing to share their expertise on the podcast. I’ve had several local guests come on the podcast and it’s always a wonderful experience to talk with them and get to share their stories. I’ve had personal friends, friends of friends, and new people I’ve met at local meet-ups or conferences come on the podcast. I’m excited to continue to connect with even more people in our city who can come on the podcast and share their travel knowledge, insights, and passion with others.
