Today we’d like to introduce you to Linn and Jonathan Klein.
Linn and Jonathan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It was destiny! We were both born into family owned real estate businesses. Jonathan’s family owned residential and commercial property in the Prescott area and Linn’s family owned a custom home business in the Dallas area. The real estate stars aligned one fateful day in 1992 when we met up at a non-real estate event, and voila! We opened ESCROW….. ahem…. I mean our family began. Nearly 24 years ago, we were married and began our life together in all things real estate. About 15 years ago, we landed in Anthem, just north of Phoenix. We are loving residential sales in the Phoenix Metro area where Jonathan specializes in both buyers and sellers and Linn’s passion is the Senior (age 50+) market.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A large percentage of real estate agents don’t make it past their first few years. So, no, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Thankfully, we were brought up in the trade so we didn’t have to go at it from ‘square one’ so to speak but we did have to figure out how to make it on our own after we married and formed our own company. To paraphrase Nelson Mandela: ‘Either I win or I learn’. That’s how we look at life. One of the major ‘struggles’ we’ve had was the real estate downturn in 2008. As full time realtors, we had a big slow down in our business. But, that gave us a chance to ‘learn’ and come out stronger than before.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Vanguard Realty – what should we know?
The name of our business is Vanguard Realty. A Vanguard is a troop that moves ahead of a military fleet. Just like the front-line Vanguard troops, we work hard at protecting our clients best interests at the forefront of the transaction. We fight to get our seller clients top dollar when selling their home in the most expeditious way. We make sure our buyer clients pay a fair price for a great home that best suits their needs and criteria. Linn particularly enjoys working with Senior clients. She enjoys the uniqueness of this generation. The thing that sets us apart is the hands-on approach that we take with each client. We have been known to help clients throw a garage sale, load our car and make trips to the donation center, supply moving boxes, provide professional organizing help, install new carpet and walk a client’s dog while the home was being shown. We have also established a great team that works with us behind the scenes from pro photography and staging, to lenders who treat our clients with the same level of exceptional customer service we are known for. Very often our clients become our friends.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Pay it forward. Through most of our lives we run on autopilot. Kids, work, chores, sports, school, church etc. are our focus. We have been especially blessed with four healthy kiddos, a sweet dog, a beautiful home, a successful business and a giving community. But, every now and then, something will happen to make us ‘stop and smell the roses’ so to speak and remember how truly blessed we are. We both started giving to charities at very young ages. That’s when we were both bit by the bug. You know, ‘the giving bug’. We were both lucky to marry people who felt the same way. So, we promised each other that when something good happened to us in life or work, that we would pay it forward. A few years ago, we looked for a charity that was small, local, that was run mostly by volunteers and that would help ANYONE that showed need. That’s why we started giving to the Anthem chapter of St. Vincent De Paul (SVDP). Giving to something bigger than ourselves makes us feel good and we know it helps the community. Through our referral program, we say ‘thank you’ to people that recommend our services to friends and family by making a donation to SVDP. That is truly a gift that keeps giving. The money stays in the community and helps people that maybe were affected by a major setback and just need a little help to get back on track. This tradition of ‘giving’ has united our family (both personally and professionally) around a common theme: to elevate our community and… well… it just makes us happy.
