Meet Lina Munoz of Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lina Munoz.

Hi Lina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started when my daughter asked for a sleepover party. Like any mom, I wanted to make it special—something she’d always remember. I started looking into slumber tent rentals and was surprised at how expensive they were. I thought, “Why not try to create one myself?” So I did. I put together a cozy, magical sleepover for her and her friends—and they absolutely loved it.

Not long after, my sister saw the setup and asked if I could do the same for her child’s party. That’s when the lightbulb went off. I realized I could help other families create these unforgettable moments—without the high price tag.

That’s how Sweet Dreams Arizona was born. What started as a labor of love for my own daughter grew into a business rooted in joy, creativity, and affordability. I take pride in giving families a fun, stress-free experience that’s both memorable and budget-friendly—something I wish I had found when I was planning my daughter’s first sleepover.

Today, I get to do what I love: help parents celebrate their kids in a way that’s meaningful and magical—without breaking the bank.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road—but every bump has been a lesson. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure what themes kids would love, so I started by creating setups based on what I saw on Pinterest. Some worked, but others didn’t land the way I’d hoped. It was a bit discouraging at first.

That’s when I brought my daughter into the brainstorming process. Together, we started thinking through what kids really enjoy and how we could make each party more fun and unique. We experimented with different themes, added fun extras, and slowly adjusted our marketing to better connect with families—and that really helped turn things around.

Summers can be a slower season for bookings, but we use that time to our advantage. It gives us a chance to develop new themes, refine our setups, and create add-on experiences like our plushie workshops and keychain kits. Every challenge has pushed us to be more creative, more resourceful, and more connected to what our clients truly want.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
During the day, I’m an elementary school principal—a role I’m deeply passionate about. A few years ago, I took a break from school leadership and began tutoring online. It was during that time that Sweet Dreams Arizona came to life. What started as a special sleepover for my daughter turned into a full-blown creative business that I built with the support of my family.

When I returned to being a principal, I realized how much I missed the creative side of Sweet Dreams. So instead of stepping away, my husband, kids, and I decided to keep it going. It’s truly a family-run labor of love. I absolutely enjoy working with children and families, whether it’s through education or through fun, meaningful celebrations.

Sweet Dreams Arizona has become a way for me to blend both of my passions—supporting kids academically and helping families create unforgettable memories, one cozy tent at a time.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
When I started Sweet Dreams Arizona, I took a huge risk—purchasing all the equipment, supplies, and decorations without knowing for sure if anyone would book a party. But I believed in the joy it brought to my own family, and I trusted that other families would feel that same joy. That belief gave me the confidence to move forward.

Every time we create a new theme, add a new activity like our plushie workshops or keychain kits, or invest in something new—it’s a risk. But it’s one we take with care, planning, and a lot of love. We put our hearts into every detail, and that’s what makes it worth it.

To me, risk is about growth. It’s about leaning into the unknown with a vision and a purpose. We’d rather take those calculated, research-based risks than look back and regret not trying. Every risk we’ve taken has not only helped grow our business—it’s strengthened us as a family and given us the opportunity to meet amazing people, celebrate beautiful milestones, and make magic for kids in a way that’s truly unforgettable.
