Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Nicole Mcdonald.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had a passion for the beauty field, my passion for makeup and bridal hair grew after attending cosmetology school at Northland Pioneer College in Show Low, Arizona, from the minute I graduated, I knew I wanted to make something of myself and my life and went and did freelance work for Kensington Makeup studio while building my own career and company. At this time in my life, I worked 2 to 3 jobs and weddings on the weekend while I was building and starting my company, after building a name for myself, Luxx Bridal & Co., I knew it was time to build my company and hire a crew of makeup and hairstylist. I am so thankful for the many people and instructors who gave me the necessary skills to build Luxx Bridal & Co.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel building your own business for anyone it has its up and down moments. It is a lot of work, a lot of late nights and a lot of hassle. Knowing how to take self-criticism and learning and growing from it, but most importantly, it is always believing in yourself and your worth. I love what I do and yes there are times that are hard, but there are always great times. My advice for anyone that is building a business is known it’s ok to start from the bottom when I first started my career, I was folding laundry and assisting a hairstylist learning all the in and outs. There were many times I thought this is not why I went to school, but it was, it helped me learn and grow and appreciate what I have now, find someone you admire to learn from them and work hard.
Luxx Bridal & Co. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in most hair and makeup services for weddings, proms, production and hair and makeup classes. Most people know my company for airbrushed makeup and hair for bridal services and engagements. What sets me apart from a lot of other freelancers is not a lot of freelancers specialize in hair and makeup making the bride or the client have to hire two different people. With me, it is a one-stop for all, which makes it less stressful and a lot easier for the client.
I am very proud of how far my company has come and grown, I love that I can help my clients feel beautiful but still see who they are. My goal is not to ever hide a brides beauty with a lot of makeup or crazy hairstyles but to enhance her own beauty so she can see just how beautiful she is.
We always love to ask about the support network – have there been people, perhaps mentors or advisors, who have played a big role in your success?
There been many people in my life who has made a huge impact on my life, my mother and father have always supported me in following my heart and taught me how to work hard. I have to also thank my instructors in cosmetology school Mrs. Julie Peck and Oona hatch for pushing me out of my comfort zone and teaching me more than just the fundamentals in this business, but how to build a career and a name. My true number one though is my husband Ernest with Mac Mortgage Team, he has been there through the ups and downs and has always cheered me on and supported me every step of the way, without him and my beautiful baby girl, I would not have far as I am now, they are the reason why I work so hard, my true support team.
