Meet Leslie Davidson of Inside Job Life Coaching in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Davidson.

Leslie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I always knew that I wanted more out of my life. I always thought that I was a really nice and caring person and deep down on the inside of me, I really liked myself. But it always seemed as if other people had a problem with me. My weight was the biggest thing that people would make comments about or try to put me down on. And when you are a young woman and you are already at an age where you’re self-confidence hasn’t been completely developed yet, any criticism you may receive whether it be from family members, kids on the playground or from a boy that you may have a crush on can be absolutely devastating. So, all through my teens and 20’s, I spent a lot of time looking for approval outside of myself, dating anyone that would pay attention to me and feel horrible on the inside. The type of people that I surrounded myself with and that I dated was a reflection of how I felt on the inside, but this didn’t dawn on me until I was about 30 and started dating this guy.

Every time I was around him or even when he called me, my stomach would feel so weird!! I thought that I was just nervous or something because after all, he was a handsome guy who had a job and he wanted to date me (I know that sounds just pitiful!) so, I just ignored that feeling in the pit of my stomach which I now know was my intuition. It wasn’t until one day that I came home from work and got ready to do some homework that I realized that he had stolen my laptop. This event was the single most gut-wrenching, mortifying and embarrassing thing that had ever happened to me! How could I let this happen? Well, let me tell you how I let it happen.

All of those years of questionable self-esteem and approval seeking had finally caught up with me. This situation, although devastating, was just what I needed to open my damn eyes. I was a reflection of the people that I let into my life. No, I wasn’t a thief or anything like that, but I was a woman who didn’t think she deserved the best and I was a woman who struggled with self-worth and just never really wanted to admit it. Anyhow, this incident is what set off my journey into self-discovery and in 2016, I became a certified Life Coach! I knew that there were other women out there who had struggled with the same things that I did and I knew that with my personal experience and with my training, I could really be of service. So today, I have a great coaching practice and I get to do what I love which is helping women and children to discover their worth and build and execute on an amazing vision for their lives!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road by any means Ha ha ha! But I am so thankful for this journey! The things that have been a struggle are:
– Trying to make the mental transition from employee to self-employed. I had to learn that I am the only one here to hold myself accountable for the things that I do or don’t do in my business and that my successes and failures are all my own.
– Trying to get people to see how much better their lives can be once they let go of all of the mental blocks that are getting in the way of them being happy and successful. I went into this business with the mindset that everyone that has experienced something tough in their lives like I did was ready to change and improve their self-development and I quickly learned that everyone is at a different level and that you have to meet people where they are.

Inside Job Life Coaching – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The name of my business is Inside Job Life Coaching and as the name implies, it is my philosophy that all change comes from the inside and that there is nothing that you can’t do without the right mindset. I am a Life Coach specializing in helping women who want to do more with their lives, but who either has mental blocks that are holding them back or real-life obstacles that they don’t quite know how to get around. I help them with the necessary mindset work that has to be done in order for them to be successful and then I help them to create a plan of action so that they can start actively working towards achieving their goals. I also work with children ages 9 to 18 with self-esteem and with building a vision for their lives. This is something that I have recently started doing because children today have so much come against them and I want them to know that they are amazing and that they can have the kinds of lives that they want despite what’s going on around them. What I am most proud of with my business is that my business focuses on creating real change in people’s lives. When people feel overwhelmed, they tend to not take action. But by breaking their goals up into achievable action steps, they find that they CAN do it and they surprise themselves which is always so rewarding for me! I think that what sets me apart from other life coaches is that I never suggest anything to anyone that I wouldn’t be willing to do myself and when I am working with someone, they know that everything that is coming out of my mouth is straight from the heart.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is defined by something that Maya Angelou said which was, “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it.” To me, that is everything that I live. Success doesn’t have a dollar sign attached to it. It doesn’t mean that you are going to be very popular or even that everyone is on your side. It does means that you have peace within yourself and that everything that you’re doing is in alignment with your true, inner self. Even though my business is fairly new, I feel successful already because I was brave enough to step out and take steps towards creating the life that I want to have. I am able to spend more time with my kids, take time for self-care and still make a living. For me, it doesn’t get any better than that, especially considering how stressed out I was when I was working for the government.
