Today we’d like to introduce you to Les & Lisa Sanders.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Les & Lisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
This brand was created in the search for a quality CBD tincture for our daughter who was at the time, diagnosed with epilepsy. We went to work on researching everything we could find on CBD and hemp at the time, which wasn’t much. We tried several different well-known brands and they helped, to an extent, but we just didn’t like that you couldn’t see test results. You really didn’t know what you were getting, only that someone spent a lot of money on branding and marketing. We began our search for a manufacturer that would meet all our criteria and help us with a pure and effective product. We quickly learned that most of the CBD/Hemp oil in the US is grown in other countries including China and just shipped through Europe. We knew then, we wanted all US-grown and manufactured a product without a doubt. We found one of the largest in the US who makes all the oil and products in the US with FDA approved Hemp is grown in Colorado, Oregon and North Carolina. Truly by luck, they usually don’t work with such a small business, but they like us and our story and gave us a shot.

Our daughter’s health got worse and we were encouraged to move closer to her hospital and off our 5-acre farm due to many flights to hospitals and the lack of resources there. While in Gilbert we were able to get our daughter’s health back to at least 85% better and while doing so we were able to create this brand and these amazing CBD products for everyone to enjoy the benefits that we get.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been a few minor bumps in the road and learning curves along the way for sure. However, our largest roadblock has been with the banking industry. We were shut down several times in the very beginning by different accounts, due to the word CBD. We had a lot of struggle, in the beginning, finding a merchant account that would work with us. We, like many others in the legal CBD business, were considered “High Risk”. Nevertheless, you could walk into most major chain stores and buy it with any number of well-known banking account debit cards. This was truly frustrating, but we are very passionate about our products, so we kept our heads down and continued to build the brand and our presence in the community, locally and online. Eventually, we found a bank that has so far given us the chance to get and keep our online shop up and running. We only hope there will be no more changes and we can continue getting our products to customers. We have great help from some fantastic guys since the conception of AZ Botanicals; Jahn, Sam, and Nick with Merristem in Phoenix. They help us with our branding and marketing with their vast knowledge of all thing’s “tech” as well as beautiful photography work, and social media. All in all, we are fully aware that anything can happen in this industry, so now we just move forward with the same passion and motivation but with caution, as we await FDA guidelines.

What were you like growing up?
We both grew up 3 miles apart on a farm and ranch in a small mining town of Duncan in South-Eastern Arizona. Our parents were miners in Morenci, Arizona at the copper mine while also farming and ranching. We are both Gen X’ers and both of us very rebellious teens in the 80’s. Yet, we were taught the “old school way” by some of the greatest of generations and still hold true to those values today. Treat others as you wish to be treated and above all be honest in all you say and do. The best of friends for 30 + years, married with three grown kids. Then and still, very passionate about the outdoors, traveling, music, and family.
