Meet Leana Thompson of The Milk Makers in Gilbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leana Thompson.

Leana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hello! My name is Leana Thompson. I dreamed of becoming a nurse since I was a little girl. I have always loved the Mother-Baby relationship. Fast-forward and I made my dream come true. I have worked in several different areas of the hospital before landing on the Antepartum/Postpartum unit commonly known as Mother-Baby unit. I’ve worked as a Mother-Baby RN for the past seven years in hospitals all across the country. Then my passions continued to evolve.

My love evolved from Mother-Baby into a sole focus on breastfeeding. Every mom and baby has a different breastfeeding and pumping journey. It is my mission to support each mom and her unique goals and vision for herself, her baby, and her family. I’ve been working as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) at a local hospital in the East Valley. I love it! My idea struck when my patients would always ask me, “Can I bring you home with me?” Now you can!

The Milk Makers goal is to provide breastfeeding services that give you + your partner ‘The Ultimate Mother-Baby Experience’ before & after you leave the hospital.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting my own mobile private practice has been great! You will always have challenges launching a business on your own but it is so worth it. My goal is to have IBCLC coverage across the entire valley for all mamas-to-be and mamas. I have learned so much about myself during the process but I know I am making a difference for mom and baby. That is what I love.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Milk Makers is a mobile lactation & breastfeeding service company – we provide consults for mamas from start to finish. I offer at-home consult packages that accommodate each mama-to-be or mama depending on where they are at in their breastfeeding journey. I believe my platform gives access to help & guidance in a more relaxed setting, typically at home. We understand the hassle of leaving the house with a newborn for appointments. I am most proud to be able to share my knowledge, visit patients at home, and ensure breastfeeding goes smoothly for both mom and baby.

I am an RN, BSN, and IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). I specialize in helping mamas breastfeed. I also work part-time at a local hospital in the East Valley as an IBCLC.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Phoenix and the Valley are a great place to start a business. Each city has so much to offer and is so different. Many people are moving here from all across the country and I feel like mobile services are becoming the trend.

If I was just starting out – I would make sure you know the landscape, who offers similar services, and where they are located. This will help anyone get set up for success!
