Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah and Matt Theodosis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Matt and I got engaged in 2013, and during our planning process we realized that what we wanted to rent for our wedding day was not available in Arizona, so we decided to build and thrift for our own wedding. After a few months of building benches and collecting vintage tableware like medicine bottles & books, we said our “I Do’s” in April of 2014. After that, we had all this stuff. We decided to rent everything out for some extra cash. We had plans to move to San Francisco and knew that we needed to save as much money as possible before this huge adjustment to a new city, new job, and new financial situation… it was quite scary! Once we started renting everything out, it just started to snowball from there. More and more people started asking if we could help them with their own projects or build custom pieces for their big day. After a few months of booking jobs and building our company Tremaine Ranch, we made the decision to stay in Arizona and try to live this thing out for as long as we could. Now, almost four years later, we have moved into our own warehouse, continually build new inventory and source vintage pieces from around the country. We have made it a goal to reuse pieces as much as can, rather than buying new. We love working in Arizona and hope that the wedding & event industry continues to grow and take shape the way it has the past few years.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a business is really hard. I would hate to sugar coat any aspect of it. We started storing pieces in our home, then we found an old ‘pod’ style unit that we put on our property (the original Tremaine Ranch – dated back to 1918 in Chandler), and then we moved to an offsite storage unit, added a second and then added a third… We were bursting at the seams with inventory all the places, and in 2016 we decided to lease a warehouse space in Tempe. It’s been hard figuring out just where we want this little dream to grow and how big we want it to grow, and luckily, we both have very supportive families who are incredibly proud of the work we have done and the company we have grown. But, the feeling of success and working through situations we never thought we would have to deal with is very rewarding. It really does help that we get to work on beautiful jobs; weddings!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Tremaine Ranch – what should we know?
Tremaine Ranch is a collective of companies focused on exceptional experiences in the southwest. There are three aspects to our company.
Rowhouse 25 which is an Airbnb in Florence, Arizona. Originally built and recently renovated, this boutique accommodation can be rented as two individual suites or as a single property hosting twelve people at a time – perfect for retreats, reunions, celebrations and holidays. Each suite includes a fully-renovated kitchen with a dishwasher, full fridge, stove and oven, and ample outside communal area. You won’t be lacking in space to escape or to entertain.
The Ivy Event is excited to promote growing a stable and healthy creative community that is lush and grows rapidly when surrounded with like-minded individuals who are interested in building a community, establishing new relationships and supporting local business. The Ivy Event focuses on the importance of building a creative community and bringing entrepreneurs together to collaborate and inspire each other. The Ivy Event is ready to create a network of roots within the creative industry. We host events 2 -3 times a year inviting all creatives & entrepreneurs to attend.
Our flagship, Tremaine Events, is where it all started… An event rental company that specializes in unique and one of a kind vintage pieces. Unlike a traditional rental company that carries bulk inventory of new items, we have a highly curated collection of vintage pieces that add a unique look to any event. We believe in creating a smaller carbon footprint on our planet and try our best to thrift for our pieces and stay away from buying new. We offer custom build pieces for weddings or events, as we realized that sometimes what you’re looking for just doesn’t exists yet or may not be available in your area.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Why has Tremaine Ranch grown so quickly over the past few years? We think the answer is simple… We focus on researching the vendors, locations, food and all the other details that go into your event from small to large, to help make every event become one of a kind and memorable for all involved. We work one on one with our clients to ensure they have the best experience from start to finish, and they know exactly what they are getting from who. One of our favorite aspects of the process is building relationships with our clients and getting their happy day images back. It brings us joy to see all the joy from their memorable events.
