Meet Lauren Perry of Body & Soul Candle Co. in North Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Perry.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lauren. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Finding creative work and ways to be creative is what usually drives me. In March 2017 my fiancés 99 year old grandmother sent me $25 for my birthday. I figured the amount was too small to start an investment, mutual fund or IRA for my family so I decided to take that $25 and make the investment in myself. While out on maternity leave I came up with the idea to hand produce soy candles. I love the relaxing atmosphere candles give but not the toxicity that some come with. That first $25 went towards making my logo and a few test candles. I took the test candles, sold them and gathered some quick feedback. From that feedback, a passion grew with how I can get my candles just right for my consumers. By the following year, I had enough candles sales to start a webpage for marketing and online orders. It’s a nice feeling starting a business that I will one day hand over to my children. Now that I’m in mom mode I see the importance of providing for the family today and in the future.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Are any roads smooth? I am a full-time mother and work more than 40 hours a week. As I started on my candle venture I came across hurdles such as time, licensing, product, supply, domains and marketing. Money was not always available to provide me access to what I needed. I went to family and asked them to invest to get me in the door, they did! The road got a lot smoother after that and I mainly have to worry about where I will find the time to create. If I could start over I probably would gather more capital before starting. My next venture is to the outdoors to sell my candles at local events and farmer’s market.

Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
I’m Lauren to my clients, the founder of Body & Soul Candle Co. I’m an individual with a passion for creativity and my mission is to provide a non-toxic candle at a price you value. Body & Soul Candle Co. was created in 2017 with an emphasis on your mental health. The motto is, “Hard work deserves some relaxation.” We are a local company based in Arizona and have grown to a website platform. I hand make soy candles which are all left hand poured with cotton wicks. My containers are wholesale while other collections use recycled glass found in vintage shops along the west coast.
