Meet Lauren Miskowski of Lauren Marie Photography in Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Miskowski.

Lauren, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Photography has always been something I loved. Whether it was taking photos of everything and anything on my phone, or mt first digital Canon I got when I was in high school. My then boyfriend, now husband, knew how much I enjoyed taking pictures, so he gave me a Canon Rebel on Christmas four years ago. At the time, I would mainly take it on trips and hikes we did. However, I realized I wanted to do more and sought out videos online on how to improve my skills and learn about the camera. I enlisted my friends and family to model for me so that I could practice what I learned.

Everything from this point happened organically. I stumbled across a few Facebook groups that revolved around weddings and styled shoots. I was so intrigued and excited to dive into this world! These groups gave me the chance to meet people in this field and to learn from them. I knew after my first styled shoot that I wanted to do more in the industry.

I researched photography training online and found Amy and Jordan Demos. Amy and Jordan provided online courses on photography, and specifically wedding photography. I took the plunge and signed up for their course. I am so happy I did because I cannot stress enough how much I learned from them. I took what they taught, and applied it in real life, and the difference I see in my photos now vs. when I started is amazing.

Once I started practicing with more styled shoots, and on my friends and family, I was offered the opportunity to second shoot my first wedding. From that day, I was hooked! The vibe and overall feelings made me want to do more. I have gotten the opportunity to second shoot for a few other photographers, and I am so grateful for the chances to do so. I love learning from each of them and getting advice. The community of photographers is so positive and supportive.

Has it been a smooth road?
I think with every business venture, there are definitely bumps in the road. Photography is a side gig for me, as I have a full-time job already, so finding time to do more can be tricky. I have struggled and debated with what I wanted my style to be because there are just so many styles out there. I have doubted myself and questioned if I have what it takes to do more in photography.

There are so many photographers out there, so it can feel like you get lost in the shuffle sometimes. As I’m sure many others have had this struggle before, finding clients and getting noticed has been a rocky road. It can get hard not to compare yourself to others who have been doing this longer. But the bad days make me appreciate the good days so much more. With all the struggles, I have learned something from each of them.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I enjoy it all! I love photographing couples, families, maternity, graduation portraits, and weddings. I love capturing those candid moments, where you just let loose and have fun! I cannot express how much fun I have taking photos of people. My favorite is taking a couple of portraits. Seeing the love and smiles on their faces really says it all, and tugs at the heartstrings.

I would say my style is more light and airy. I want to capture those timeless photos. Everyone’s story is beautiful and unique. It is such a privilege being there and capturing such special moments.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
The proudest moment so far, as cliche as it sounds, is doing this interview. Having this opportunity to speak about my business and passion for photography has been such an honor. As I said before, with so many photographers out there it can be hard to get noticed. So being a part of this interview makes me so happy and proud to have been given the opportunity to shine a little.
