Meet Laurel McMillan of Little Roos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurel McMillan.

Hi Laurel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Little Roos began as a dream. I always wanted to work with children since I was a small child myself growing up in Arizona. The desire became more focused when a helpful college student advisor suggested the field of occupational therapy might be a good fit for my interests. It turned out to be a perfect fit for my interests – working in the pediatric field, connecting with families, and helping children thrive. This eventually led me to the University of Southern California where I concentrated on pediatric occupational therapy while earning a Master’s degree.

Following graduation, I was hired by a large healthcare system and worked in an outpatient hospital-based pediatric clinic, and then transitioned to a neonatal intensive care unit for many years. I met many wonderful families, babies, and dedicated fellow professionals who helped shape my ideas and approach as a clinician.

In February of 2020, I chose to take a big leap and open my own private pediatric therapy practice – Little Roos. We specialize in infant and pediatric development, supporting the child and family at every step of the way.

Little Roos currently consists of myself and two other very talented and caring occupational therapists, Karlee and Kelsey. We share the same core values of supporting each child and family with highly personalized services that fit their unique profiles.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Little Roos was something that I had been thinking about for many years. While it of course took time to gestate and learn many things before becoming real, it was a natural progression for me and has helped to fill a specific need in the community.

Additionally, I have been very fortunate to have the support of family and many friends, as well as fellow professionals. Their helpfulness cannot be overstated and has contributed greatly to my growth both professionally and personally.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Little Roos specializes in infant and pediatric development, supporting the child and family at every step of the way. Little Roos’ physical space is located on Scottsdale Road, inside the mom and baby wellness boutique, Modern Milk. We primarily treat pre-walking babies here for many different reasons, including a wide range of motor development, torticollis, post-tongue-tie support, feeding, and overall infant well-being. Little Roos also treats infants and pediatric patients in home settings across the Valley, tailoring each session to the individual family needs. In addition, Little Roos has been able to offer the “Happy Baby” classes in the infant wellness space at Modern Milk, focusing on overall infant development from 0-12 months. Lastly, Little Roos offers many virtual infant development and wellness classes, where we are lucky enough to meet families from across the world.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We have recently wrapped up production with Nick Sorenson, and Little Roos will soon be releasing a new online course titled “Purposeful Play with Babies”. This course will provide a wide range of demonstrations and insights featuring many wonderful babies that I had the privilege to work with. It covers how to optimally support your baby’s development from 0-6 months while making it playful, fun, and purposeful.

Additionally, Little Roos works hard to be regularly engaged in social media, particularly Instagram (@littleroospediatrictherapy), posting helpful tidbits regarding infant development.

Lastly, Little Roos takes insurance and provides superbills for out-of-network insurance plans. Occupational therapy services are often covered through insurance plans.
