Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Walton.
Hi Laura, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I was 21, my dad died by suicide, and when I was 26, my then-boyfriend died of a heroin overdose. As a grieving, early/mid-20s young woman, I couldn’t find much out there in terms of support. I didn’t know a lot at the time, but I knew that it felt wrong that there was nothing out there to support me. At that time, I just knew that one day, I would do something to try to better support those who are grieving.
Years later, I went to grad school to become a therapist, specializing in working with grief and trauma. These days, I’ve been a therapist for over a decade, and have been running my own private practice since 2018. I am currently launching a second business that offers non-clinical emotional and logistical support around grief, death, and dying.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, of course not! I’ve had to face a lot of my own personal barriers – old belief systems that have kept me back. For example, I have a lot of fear about being seen, and I have had to do a lot of internal work on that in order to let people know that my business even exists.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
lovelew provides emotional and logistical support around grief, death, and dying. Our ultimate mission is to empower individuals not only to survive but to thrive in the face of grief. We currently offer grief and trauma-related courses and online group grief coaching cohorts.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Set an intention with your business, but hold it lightly. Know that things will change, and that’s ok.
