Meet Laura Myers of Keller Williams Arizona Realty in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Myers.

Laura, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was raising small children back in 2000 and my friend had his children on the same baseball team as mine. At the time, he was looking for “help.” and I was looking for work. He invited me to “interview”. I showed up in my suit, my resume and he simply said ” I just need help can you start now”. I said ok…He said “oh, by the way…there is not salary and no benefits…you only get paid when you help the agents help their clients….”

I saw this as a limitless opportunity and jumped right in. Over the course of just two days…no one knew any answers to what I was supposed to do….I decided to train myself and eventually ran a solid transaction management business, helping agents in contract management.

Within a few years and after continuous feedback from peers and agents I transitioned into sales. A natural negotiator and skilled in the process, they were key skills clients desired among others. I flew to Rookie of the Year on my team first year in sales.

Lessons on the journey of life were about to hit this first year in sales. I was about to take my license exam in 2004 when my grandmother passed….in addition I had committed to finishing my college degree by the time my son finished high school which was May 2005. I was working on my thesis as a Barrett Honors College student. You see, I had my son very young…couldn’t finish college then and wanted to lead by example. If I was going to expect he go to college, I best finish too. So, grandmother dies April 2004, license exam I fail first time and then pass next attempt. I jump into sales…..I have a few stressors occur…

May 2004 – my job helping agents is squashed because I try to condemn an agent for fraud and that brokerage will not support me
Oct 2004 – I leave my ex taking 3 kids to an apartment ….a commission opportunity in sales no other income
Mar 2005 – Mom suddenly dies….this is the same day I am in the hospital with my youngest getting stitches after a day with dad who brings him to me to take care of it because he cannot…
Mar 2005 – I come face to face that my oldest son needs to be kicked out of my home due to drug addiction
April/May 2005- my thesis is due and I must present/defend it.
May 2005 – graduate (Summa Cum Laude)
May 2005-to end of year…..build a business , great results
Oct 2007 – buy a home – to get away from my oldest son primarily so he cannot threaten my younger two
Market is crashing at this time……so is business, so is my income, morale and vision is bleak

4months on the “trying” to live mindset but fooling myself

Picked myself up to get to work and work and work

Still I eventually could not pay my mortgage
Sept 2010…my kids call me at work…the sheriff is there…..he has eviction notice…..
Jan 2011 – I find a place to rent, lose my home

Jan 2011-now…..I’ve pulled and pushed my mental status to a limitless ability, opportunity and fortuitous mindset. I’ve learned many lessons and continue to inspire others.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Obstacles primarily with mindset really. Once this is improved everything else is too. Who you surround yourself with and most importantly for me now is
1. Being Vulnerable
2. Receiving …a great gift beyond giving. I am a giver, resisted receiving…this was very selfish of me. I work on this
3. Asking for help

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a residential Realtor. Likely the most referred Realtor by other Realtors across the country for those with homes to sell or buy in AZ. My network of agent relationships is second to none so this niche has provided great opportunities for a service clients can depend on. My experience helping agents primarily in the beginning put me in front of hundreds and hundreds of negotiation opportunities which is a natural skill for me and I excel in the art of negotiation.

As a company I am most proud of our work ethic and vision. Our mission is to provide a customer experience that compels you to refer your family and friends. We have a give back mentality and serve physically and financially to those in need across the country. We embrace Faith | Family | Business philosophy as a culture.

What I’ve been told that sets us apart is our heart, culture and ability to be “conscious of our unstated needs”
