Meet Laura Browder and Veanney Hurtado of The Scookie Bar in Maricopa County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Browder and Veanney Hurtado.

Laura and Veanney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We started “The Scookie Bar” in July of 2016! We serve build your own, deep-dish skillet cookies. Each guest gets to choose their cookie, choose their ice cream, and choose their toppings!

A little insider on our name is that we met at a bar & joke that Veanney is the brown cookie and Laura is the white scoop, so the Scookie Bar is ‘where the scoop met the cookie’.

Has it been a smooth road?
We originally had a trailer from July-December. On “National Cookie Day” 12/04/16, we unfortunately got into an accident on the 101 freeway. The trailer rolled and was a total loss.

Luckily our insurance covered the accident and we built a new truck. We bought an old Uhaul & started all over again. We were back on the road by the end of January! Since then, it has been only minor setbacks like spark plugs, tires, & new brake pads!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Scookie Bar story. Tell us more about the business.
For each guest that comes to our window, we genuinely are grateful for them trying us! We pride ourselves on providing quality service & an even better product. Your Scookie can be as simple or complicated as you’d like! There is no judgement at this bar!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the near future we plan to expand and make another food truck. In the long run, we would love to become a brick and mortar if there is enough demand for our supply!
