Meet Lamark Cole of Something Unique Productions, LLC in Downtown Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lamark Cole.

Lamark, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
First and foremost thank you Voyage Phoenix for reaching out I’m completely honored. As you know I’m LaMark Cole founder of Something Unique Productions, LLC where my primary roles are creative direction, fashion design and wardrobe styling. Some Unique Productions is a glam team that consists of four members; Raymond Peeples (MUA), Tyra Lawrence (HAIR), Jacinta “Mo” Reyes (HAIR).

How S.U.P. got started… I must admit it was a super organic experience I’ll walk you through it. Ray and I moved to Az in 2016 we were quickly introduced to Mo at the time she was attending cosmetology school, and as for Tyra we met on the Phoenix social scene and as we began talking we quickly realized her hometown friends were my exact college friends while I was attending Lane College. It blew our minds lol. And as I got to know her more and more I found out how amazing she is at hair styling, her and Mo both! Raymond is my partner and he’s a super talented MUA.

Once Ray and I got settled we learned immediately that Phoenix, AZ is the land opportunity! Ray has always had a passion for makeup, and as for me growing up, I’ve always had a passion for fashion! I honestly I think got it from my mother. My mother always kept me and my siblings well groomed, appearances were always super important to our family!

So as we were trying to find our way in Phoenix to showcase our talents, I was asked to style a photoshoot and the model didn’t have hair or a mua to pull the vision together, so you know I knew just who to call!

We all sat down and started coming up with concepts for hair, makeup, wardrobe it just felt so incredible to create magic with these beautiful creatives! The shoot went amazing, from the top of her head to the tip of her toes our model was slayed! All week long after the shoot, I was just so impressed how we worked together as a team I just kept thinking we have something here!

I gathered Mo, Tyra and Ray together and asked them would like to form a glam squad called Some Unique Productions and without hesitation, they were all 100% down!

We went on to impact AZ in an amazing way! In Oct 2018 our glam squad won our first award; Best editorial video and photoshoot for the 2018 Phoenix Fashion Week Photo Challenge. At that moment we shook up Phoenix and they knew Something Unique Productions was here to stay!

We are continuing to influence our community in so many ways, for example, We created our annual fashion show called ICARE FASHION SHOW to support foster care families and children in the foster care system. We work with one of the biggest organizations in America: AASK – Aid to Adoption of Special Kids! This year’s event will be held a the Kimpton Hotel Palomar Dec.28.3019. Something Unique Productions’ goal is to continue moving in a positive direction and impact our community at all times!

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, I believe with every success story there is ups and downs. When we first started people didn’t take us serious, would couldn’t get anyone to invest in our dream and passion, and I got a lot of no’s! I have always been super eager and passionate about any and everything I do. Starting when I would talk about what we had coming up or what I was working on certain people’s enthusiasm wasn’t there which in return made me feel as if my ideas and plans weren’t good enough.

As far as funding our events, I would say 99.9% of all of the funding came from our pockets, which makes it super hard at times because we all have other priorities. But on the other hand we also want to put on an awesome show and all of that requires funding.
No no no no no and more nos… what I would say to that is… WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES, ANOTHER ONE OPENS! But we have always overcome the nos. We have decided to depend on each other no matter what! No man left behind!

What is Something Unique Productions? Something Unique Productions is a full glam team covering; hair, makeup, and your stylist/ wardrobe designer. We take our work very serious. We do large and small parties, photoshoots, weddings, music videos, and a variety of other events!

I’m most proud that each one of us is continuing to evolve! I’m working on my clothing line called LaMark Cole, Raymond will be launching his eyeshadow pallet called Ray of Sunshine, Mo has gotten married and owns her salon called Arizona Royalty Salon, Tyra got married and bought her first home a week ago! I’m beyond proud of my team! 2020 here we come!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I learned very quickly Phoenix Az is the land of opportunity! Whatever your dream or passion may be, AZ is the perfect place to get started. Of course, you’ll have the non-believers but you have to continue pushing! I know this sounds cliché but dreams do come true! Through your platform, I would like to thank all of my supporters! When I go out to different events so many people come up to us and tell us how much they love our work and that they’re supporting everything we’re doing!
