Meet Lalonna Winslow of Rhea Lana’s of Mesa and Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lalonna Winslow.

Lalonna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a mother of four and a full-time nurse. I wanted a way to connect with other mom’s and have more time with my kids. I had participated in many Rhea Lana events in Northwest Arkansas and decided this was the business that would bring me back to Arizona and give me that time with my kids. I started Rhea Lana’s of Mesa in October of 2017 and bought my second location Rhea Lana’s of Chandler in December of 2017. We are now almost at our two years mark and growing rapidly. Rhea Lana’s has connected me to so many amazing people in the last two years.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, this has not been a smooth road. Finding a building to host each event is probably my biggest struggle. Since we are an event and our events are only a week long it has been hard to find someone to lease us a building for a short two weeks. I have made some amazing connections and the process is becoming much easier but at the beginning, it was something I dreaded doing.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
WHAT IS RHEA LANA’S? We are a bi-annual (1 week in the Fall and Spring) consignment sale’s event of HIGH QUALITY children’s clothes, shoes, toys, books, DVD’s, baby items gently used maternity clothes, large furniture items and much much more. Consignors enter their items into our easy to use online system, prepare and price their items, and make 65% of all items that are purchased during the week of the sale. Consignors can review their sales online throughout the week and then pick up their check on the final day, along with their unsold items. We GUARANTEE all items (i.e., if an unsold item is not returned, then we will pay the consignor 65% of the price of that item). If consignors choose, unsold items can be left and we will donate them to a few hand-picked local charities and foster families.

I am most proud of the network of mom’s we have built. I didn’t realize there were so many moms that needed that same sisterhood I was looking for. One of my leaders said it best. “Rhea Lana nation is mom’s helping mom’s”.

I think our model sets us apart from others in the industry. We want to build an empire of strong business women. At each event we have local small businesses join us as vendors and sponsors. I feel that it’s important to have a successful community. If my community is successful then I will be successful.

How do you define success?
Success can be defined in many ways. I am in the business of helping others. We help mom’s sell their children’s clothes and toys that they have outgrown and at the same time they can buy the next size all while saving money. I was a single mom and I remember that feeling when I realized I couldn’t afford to dress my son in the clothes that would make him the “cool kid”. Rhea Lana’s is the answer to being able to have that on a budget. The smiles on the kids faces while shopping at my events when their mom says yes you can have that outfit and that toy you have been wanting. That right there is success to me. That struggling mom didn’t have to say no yet again and her dollar was stretched even further. It’s all about mom’s helping mom’s.

Pricing:

  • Consignors earn 65-70% of their sales.
