Meet Lacey Finchum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Finchum.

Lacey Finchum

Hi Lacey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story, eh? Well, my story is a winding one, that’s for sure!

I’ve done a lot of things both personally and professionally but I’ve been calling myself an artist for the past 10 years or so. I started as a dabbler before pursuing painting full-time via fine art and murals. However, during this most recent chapter my life has seemed a lot like I’ve lost the plot.

As I was preparing to respond to this interview I even contemplated not doing it. The last couple years I’ve been grieving some big losses, questioning life choices, healing from trauma, and learning to navigate life on a homestead in the woods. It’s felt more like loosing myself rather than making any progress toward specific goals. Today I realized I’m just in the middle of the story and sometimes the middle gets a little weird.

If I were writing my story rather than living it, I’d be taking the character on some lesson-learning side-quest that reveals their inner truth and builds their character and skills for the main event. And, here we are, lol.

So, what’s the main event? I think it’s building an intentional creative eco-community cooperative in the woods. It’s a mouthful and a plateful, lol.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth?!? Ha! No way! lol.

I have had a lot of luck and things just working out for me, as I mentioned in a recent interview but, there are definitely days I feel a lot like I’m trying to play a game on hard with a faulty controller.

While I’ve had life challenges just like anyone else, some of my biggest challenges have probably been within myself, i.e. perfectionism, procrastination, doubt, fear, self-discipline, etc. I think that’s what my most recent chapter has been about, revealing my faults and shortcomings that I might over come them and acquire the skills necessary to actually achieve the life I want.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As mentioned, I’m primarily a painter. My work has mostly focused on fine art and murals where I use surrealism to turn dreams into reality. My goal in that work is two-part, to tell an interesting and compelling story, and to trick the viewer’s mind into believing what their eye is seeing. While some of my work is just for fun, other pieces talk about more serious topics like spirituality, mental health and our environment.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memories involve some form of exploration. I loved to explore nature and different creative mediums.
