Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Beierle.
Hi Lacey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
The funny thing is that I have wanted to be a Cosmetologist as far back as I can remember. I grew up with a grandmother who wore her signature platinum blonde hair in a stunning “beehive” back in the day. She was so glamorous, and I wanted to make people feel beautiful like she did. I remember asking my parents in junior high if I could sign up for dual-enrollment for the Cosmetology classes when I was in high school – disappointedly, they said it wasn’t a good idea.
As an adult now, I respect their mindset back then. They were worried it might never work out. They might’ve pictured the typical “beauty school drop-out” like the sweet character Frenchy in the 1970s era of the movie Grease. But, oh boy, let me tell you how many times over the last several years they have told me how incredibly proud they are. They have complimented my passion, drive, and ability on connecting with other women & making them feel beautiful! They have also loved watching me chase my dreams and making them all come true.
My actual story started after college, which I did attend, hopeful that I would find fulfillment in something – even if it weren’t the creative aspect that Cosmetology would’ve given me..
I originally started my college dreams in hopes of completing a Psychology degree. As I was working through that process, I quickly realized that I found more joy working with people and hearing their stories outside such an intense setting. After graduating with my degree, I decided to follow my heart and go to Cosmetology school. After touring several institutions, I jumped into Aveda’s program in Tempe. I was mesmerized from day one. I got the opportunity to work special events like the H2O Fashion show, RAW’s Natural Born Artists Show at Monarch Theatre, and with some of the industry “greats” like Elijah Mack of Hitori Hanzo shears. I learned so much in my time with AIX.
I found so much happiness in the hair transformations. The “before and after” would bring joyful tears to many of my clients daily on the salon floor. It was pure magic!! I graduated from Aveda in 2015, and after completing the State Board Exams for Cosmetology, I began working as an independent stylist. Yet again, I was inspired to continue learning new techniques and color theory and continuing my education. I followed along with brands Behind The Chair and many other up-and-coming artists in this amazing industry. I’ve always had big dreams of owning a salon where clients could utilize several different services in one spot. It seemed to me that was the best possible option as this industry continues to grow. It’s been so fun to see how many more salon suites have been established in the last few years, so clearly, I wasn’t alone in my thought process. I started renting a salon studio in 2018 after I decided to take some courses to learn Eyelash Extensions. I figured why not learn a whole new avenue inside my industry that would hopefully continue to drive more clientele through the doors, and let me tell you, it was the best idea I could have ever had. My initial hope was that I would work with lash clients one day a week, then those clients would likely become hair clients, and so on. Some days I worked from 7 or 8 am until 10 pm.
On other days it was even later. I worked with any client I had the opportunity to, and it didn’t matter what day or time they wanted to come into my salon space. I was working whenever they asked. It was thrilling and exhausting, but I hoped all those late nights and long hours would pay off. What happened later that summer was even greater than I had hoped. I remember chatting one afternoon with my mom, talking about how many clients I was seeing and contemplating how I could market, advertise or gain a bigger referral base. As we came up with some ideas, I checked the upcoming month ahead and realized I was fully booked with multiple clients daily. I was ecstatic!
As time continued, each month, I had the pleasure of watching as my clientele list grew more and more. These “Lash Gang Babes” have made my dream a reality, and I am incredibly grateful! It’s been a joy to watch my small business grow each year, despite all the changes we’ve witnessed in our world over the last couple of years. I’m so proud of the dedication I’ve put into each of my salon spaces, all of my time, creativity, energy, and finances (obviously!). Plus, the lasting relationships I’ve built with my “Lash Gang Babes” and all the incredible conversations we share daily give me even more fulfillment than I ever imagined I would experience at work each week. I think back to the days when I was in college for psychology and how much I thought I wanted to do that for a career. It’s not so far off from my business now; while I may spend my days helping my clients to find their style or their “look,” I do also know without a shadow of a doubt that the interpersonal relationships we have built give each of us a sense of fulfillment. It’s funny, even now, to think about how my job has never truly felt like “work” because I find happiness every day. I might be biased, but I think my clientele are some of the most beautiful souls in the world. We have the most open conversations about everything in life. We share our favorite art or music, building our empires, growing up, astrology, signs and synchronicities, breakups and love, the universe, family, religion, and sometimes even the toughest stuff in life, such as divorce, heartbreak, trauma, and therapy. I have heard some of their most beautiful stories, sacred stories, and some of their deepest fears. In turn, I, too, have shared some of my most difficult life stories with many of my lash-babes. Each time, I have always been met with the most resounding compassion, support, and love from all of them. Given the right opportunity, this industry brings people together, especially when the shared environments are filled with support, kindness, and compassion for one another. I’m here to empower the women in my life. I’m here for it all, so whether we call it Girl-Bossing, Female Entrepreneur, Small Business Ownership, or something else, know I’m clapping for myself and so many others, cheering each & every one of us on. We can achieve our dreams, chase our goals, and crush them! Just have faith and trust in your hearts.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say that the greatest struggle to date was most definitely the pandemic. It breaks my heart to acknowledge that because so many people lost their loved ones, so there is truly no way I can compare the two thoughts, but as a small business owner, it devastated not only our industry (but many others too) across the States (and the world!). It was the most challenging and scary time in my young-adult life. Like so many others, I was stunned and scared. I wanted so badly to get back to “normal,” to connect with my clients as usual and get back to work. I will say that once we were allowed to re-open our salons, I was met with the most loving, open-arms hugs and hours upon hours of catching up on all that we had missed out on sharing. In some ways, we all knew that there was no “going back” to what we called “normal” before. But we could all work together to find safety and comfort in our industry again. I was so thrilled to see all of my clients upon re-opening. It warmed my heart to see how excited they were to be back in the studio.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Lavish Haus?
My Small Business was once a full-time hair salon, but after an explosion of new clients joining my schedule (over the last couple of years) for eyelash extension services, I decided to make that my full-time gig. I reserve Fridays for my hair clients, OG’s and newbies, but during the rest of the week, I’m busy lashing my heart out!
For lashes: I specialize in each category – such as classic (singles), hybrid, volume styles, and Russian. I am probably most well-known for my “strip lash style” (in any variation from hybrid to Russian volume), which mimics the look of Falsies/or the banded style Strip Lashes. Anything that gives a lot of drama to the lash line, adds some texture, or creates the illusion of winged eyeliner is always exciting to create for my clients. My next most popular style is my wispy hybrids. These are also super customizable and so much fun to create because each set of eyes is unique.
For hair: I am a blonding expert & extension specialist. Although I love a big transformation as much as the next hairstylist, I have many clients who come in for grey coverage, highlights and lowlights, simple root touch up, or balayage too!
I am most proud of the feeling my clients get, whether, from social media posts or just the overall vibe they get during their visits. I’ve heard how much they appreciate the positive energy and all-around good vibes they feel. On social media, I try to share inspirational or motivational quotes throughout my pages, cheer them on as they navigate their goals, and share their beautiful faces. In the studio, I want everyone to know how much I genuinely care about them, their stories, and the details I learn about their lives. I’m always here to celebrate their accomplishments and motivate them to chase their dreams, as I have been an ear when they need to get the tough stuff off their minds. Something you should know about me is that I am my client’s biggest fan girl. I pride myself on being the cheerleader for everyone I get the pleasure of knowing. Joy and happiness are infectious, in a good way, of course! So if I can spread a little kindness around like confetti, I hope it trickles down through each of my clients into their own lives. The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
In my industry, I learned how incredibly powerful connection is. Many people experienced some of the worst things imaginable during the pandemic, which breaks my heart. I remember one of the first weeks I could get back into the studio. At the end of each session, I would ask the girls if they would like a hug, and I’ll never forget the sweet client that was brought to tears because she hadn’t been able to see or hug any of her friends or family in so long. It was an emotional embrace that brought her some peace, and we still talk about that moment to this day. Something seemingly so simple; that question was met with huge amounts of laughter & thanks from each of the girls. I truly think it helped everyone feel more themselves again, myself included.
