Meet Lacey Bates of LWB Public Relations in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Bates.

Lacey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my business LWB Public Relations in 2012 after years of experience working for big PR agencies and within the fashion/entertainment industry in Los Angeles, Boston & New York. After graduating from USC in Los Angeles, I worked for numerous companies including E! News, New Line Cinema, Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment, FORD Models and the Miss Universe Organization. I ultimately found my passion for PR a few years out of college when I worked for a big Fashion PR agency based out of Boston & New York. It was thrilling to me to help businesses build their brands and take them to the next level.

After marrying my college sweetheart in 2011, we were moving around a ton for his job in baseball, and I created my own business, so I could continue working in the field I love but have the flexibility to be with him and do it from any city.

In 2015, his job brought us to Scottsdale, Arizona which is now home to us and where my PR business is based out of full-time. We absolutely love it here, and with my client’s being based all over the country, it’s a great easy city to travel in and out of for work as well.

While my business is still very much fashion/lifestyle based, after having my 1st child in 2015, I opened up a kids/family division of my agency as well and now, love working with all of the big parenting magazines and children’s brands as well. I absolutely love the client’s I work with!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There’s definitely always struggles and challenges when taking the leap of faith to start your own business. My biggest piece of advice for someone wanting to start their own business is make 100% sure it’s something you are very passionate about because it takes a lot of dedication and self-discipline to run your own business.

I can truly say I am so passionate about every single brand I represent and never work with anyone that I don’t personally use or wear on a daily basis. My girlfriends will tell me you will rarely ever see me without my Fawn Design Diaper Backpack, my mali beads bracelets and my kids eat every meal on their ezpz mats. I feel so lucky to work with such cool lines that I don’t personally love!

I can honestly say while my kids and husband are my #1 priority, I truly love working and wake up every day inspired and excited and so grateful to have a job I love.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about LWB Public Relations – what should we know?
LWB Public Relations is a boutique pr firm specializing in representing clients in the Fashion/Lifestyle/Kids fields. I handle full-time pr for all of my clients and help them get placements in magazines, online and tv shows. I am so proud that my clients have been in publications including PEOPLE, Oprah, US Weekly, ELLE, InStyle and on the Today Show to name a few.

I am most proud of the fact that while I work with all of the top editors and biggest magazines out there, unlike many large pr firms, my clients will tell you that I give them a lot of personal one on one attention and am extremely passionate about helping them reach their goals.

I think one thing that sets me apart is that I don’t take on any clients that I personally use and love myself. Many big pr agencies rep great companies but companies they personally don’t love or use. I feel so lucky to have my own agency, so I can choose the lines I work with. I am very specific about the brands I align myself with, and it makes my job so much more fun to work with lines that I truly believe in!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mom is the #1 person who deserves the credit! She is a huge inspiration of mine. She owned her own jewelry business when I was a little girl and had four young children while doing it. I will never forget the day I told her I was going to start my own business. She believed in me right away and has been there for me every step of the way whether it being helping with my kids so I can work, or keeping her eyes open for new clients. She is seriously the best!

My husband as well is incredible! He is constantly telling me how proud he is of me and what I’ve done with my business. He always makes me feel really confident and is always there to remind me of how far I’ve come. It means the world to me when he tells me how proud he is of this little business of mine because I truly do it for my family.
