Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Aaron.
Hi Kylie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you so much for taking the time to interview me! Infant and Maternal nutrition is not somewhere I thought I would be and honestly, wouldn’t have guessed it a few years ago. I always knew I wanted to help people but didn’t know where to start. In high school, my dad was diagnosed with cancer and I thought maybe I’d like to be a nurse. The more I looked into it, I just knew needles weren’t for me. I found out about Dietetics nutrition and swiftly became interested as nutrition and health are so intertwined.
I did community college, then went to ASU and completed my degree in May 2014. I didn’t get matched to be able to move into phase 2 – the RD internship, which was a huge blow to my confidence. I didn’t know what to do but found a local internship for school nutrition with led me to a 5-year career as a school nutrition specialist.
Part of me felt I was missing out on the counseling and completing my RD dream and goals. In 2018 I completed my RD internship while working full-time as a nutrition specialist.
Through my internship, I found my love of counseling and working 1on1 with people. I found myself in infant nutrition, pregnancy and postpartum and specializing in lactation. I recently went on to get my masters in 2021, and my IBCLC in 2022.
I started my own private practice 1 year ago and have found so much joy in working with my pregnant and postpartum clients. Most clients are pregnant or recently had a baby. I’ve loved building relationships with my clients and it’s been a privilege to see them reach their goals.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve faced challenges of many kinds like not getting into an internship right away, struggles to create my own business, working and going to school. Recently this last year with the launch of my business, I also balanced being pregnant and having a premature baby. Each of these things has helped me learn to roll with resistance and become a stronger person. I’ve felt so blessed to have family and friends to support me through the tough times and to celebrate wins.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in mom and infant nutrition and nutrition during pregnancy – postpartum. I am so proud to be able to help a mom feel confident in their journey.
Majority of my appointments I spend a lot of time with clients understanding their goals and their hopes for their journey. Some people want to exclusively nurse, some want to combo feed, some people are looking for nutrition support throughout their pregnancy. No matter their goal my joy comes from giving them options and tools to be successful. Within my signature program, I offer 1 on 1 counseling but also group support. In addition, I have pre-recorded trainings for my clients to help them prepare for their journey.
So many people feel overwhelmed with pregnancy, breastfeeding and adjusting to newborn survival mode, it’s such a privilege to support families through this time.
I think one thing that sets me apart from other providers is that I can relate to a lot of moms. I have so much empathy as I’ve experienced so many breastfeeding Complications not just from working 1 on 1 with other families, but in my personal journey as well. My personal journey has helped me become a better provider and I enjoy helping families navigate their own journeys.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I wouldn’t be here today without the best support team. I firmly believe that people and situations in our life for a purpose. My husband has been so supportive to my continuing education as well as my family.
So many wonderful people in my industry have provided mentoring, support and encouragement to help me get here. I will be forever grateful to them.
