Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristopher Mocny.
Kristopher, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
15yrs back, Chicago 2003, I started my 1st professional graphic design job at a small advertising agency. After interning at a large ad house, I found a niche for smaller boutique ad shops, providing more one-on-one director to designer education as well as a more intimate client communication. After three years I was at a cross roads, either follow someone else’s path or control my own destiny.
The decision was made to take the first of many risks & start my own business at 26. The quintessential one-man shop began, designing for both mom & pop start-ups to fortune 500 companies such as Marriott, Kimpton Hotels and Care Communications. Utilizing the connections thru my previously formed client relationships helped form a steady client base. After a great first two years in business, I chose to celebrate & book a trip to Arizona, then to Mexico with some friends. My focus relied heavily on work/career, but that changed in an instant. While in Arizona I met someone too special to pass up. The beauty of my job is as long as you have an internet connection & computer you can work from anywhere in the world. I stayed in Arizona for a few months, traveling back & forth every other month or so.
6 months passed before packing my apt, office & starting a new journey. With nothing to lose, following my heart and love, I made the trek from Chicago to Scottsdale. The very weekend I arrived I received an email from a friend of a friend, asking if I can critique some brand identities designed for a buddy’s new venture. At the Monte Lucia hotel I reviewed the design work & replied… “Give me till Monday to show you what I can do, my vision.” Come Monday, Fired Pie (a local fast-casual pizza / salad shop) said “we like your designs, style, it’s what we want… you have the gig.” 19 restaurants later around the valley I took pride in starting a totally new brand / concept from scratch and seeing it flourish to where they are today. From there it was word of mouth…. the whole “I got to guy” marketing approach.
To this day when I’m asked how I get my clients I respond with “my clients are my sales team. You knock jobs out of the park with killer creative, position your clients for success, provide in-the-now trend-setting design then your clients essentially sell for you, providing leads to the next opportunity.
In 2016 I rebranded myself to Clyint, since my clients are my fuel & drive I decided to name my company after them. I hired my first 2 employees in 2016 and currently have 5 on staff, keeping true to my “boutique” small design shop ambitions. I am proud at the fact that I’ve never had financial backing, debt-free, have successfully positioned myself to where I am today with hard work, dedication & staying true to my core values that my family has instilled in me, that I will instill on my children.
Settling down with my wife (Natasha Mocny) and two beautiful baby girls (Nouveau Rose, 2yrs and Indie Gem, 3months old) and having the support of family, I am ready to take this momentum, strength, purpose and parlay it into my business.
Currently Clyint has 3 full-time designers, a senior project manager & contract programmers. Located in the heart of downtown Phoenix, we build long-standing relationships with brilliant clients — visionaries, innovators, pioneers, and luminaries. The city is bustling & we are anxious for the next opportunities to showcase our creativity.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not, I’ve been through a TON of troubled times, obstacles & adversities. From tragedy, loss of best friends to failed opportunities. I am stronger going through these life hurdles and truly feel I now have angels watching over my shoulder. Part of my drive is to not only succeed for myself & family, but for those close to me that lost their lives way too young. By making a name for myself & being able to live the life I envision it’s as if they are living it through me as well. Stay humble, stay hungry.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Clyint story. Tell us more about the business.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I foresee Clyint diving more into commercial advertising, storyboarding and concepting. Having an idea, then creative directing the large scope of the project from start to finish. Utilizing our connections to tap into video production/animation while applying our design & conceptual aesthetic. We also envision taking our large format mural and installation art to the next level. Being commissioned to produce that “WOW” piece for our clients or city centers.
