Meet Kristin Whitnable of AZ CoWork in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Whitnable.

Kristin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was connected with Hamid Shojaee, Axosoft Founder and Pure chat Founder/CEO, and his wife Lawdan, Axosoft CEO in April of 2018. They had just begun construction on a tech-centric co-working and maker space in their North Scottsdale office building’s vacant first floor and they needed someone to take the reins in managing all of its’ processes.

Over the next six months, we worked alongside the construction team as the office was built out selecting everything from the paint color on our staple yellow staircase to the live edge tables in the meeting rooms to the soda fridge in the kitchen. We officially opened our doors in November of last year and became home to our first few members. Over the next 13 months, we grew to over 70 members and hosted an array of events ranging from Smash Bros. tournaments to hackathons and everything in between.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing worthwhile comes easy! I would put is more as it’s been a constant winding road with new challenges at every turn. As AZ CoWork continues to grow, so have my responsibilities. What stressed me out or gave me hurdles a year ago is something that is now routine in my day and causes zero worries. Alternatively, things that weren’t on my plate a year ago are now things I have to figure out and work through. I’ve realized in growing any business, there’s a lot of figuring things out as you go.

Please tell us about your business.
AZ CoWork is a coworking space located near the Raintree/101 exit. We have conference rooms, private offices, 24/7 dedicated desks, and open workspaces. The space is ideal for start up founders, small business owners, remote workers – really just about anyone looking for an inspiring and collaborative place to work.

What’s unique about AZ CoWork is it’s a one-stop-shop. In addition to our offices and desk spaces, we have an onsite audio visual studio that gets used frequently for the podcast and video recordings as well as a fully equipped maker space complete with a CNC router, laser cutter, and more. We’re also the perfect venue when it comes to hosting events like lunch and learns, meet ups, speakers, etc.

AZ CoWork was created out of the passion to support and foster the next generation of fast growing tech companies here in Arizona. Founders Hamid and Lawdan are both big proponents in the local tech community. In creating this space, they aimed to create a perfect home for budding tech talent.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wish we had more offices! We have had a greater interest in offices than was originally anticipated but it’s been a good problem to have. Aside from that, I wouldn’t change much because even though there have been challenges along the way, I’ve learned from each one and used those lessons moving forward.
