Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Cole.
Kristen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started teaching group fitness and personal training while I was getting my Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology. I was planning on getting my Master’s in Athletic Training.
After finishing my degree I got a job at a weight loss studio and fell in love with it so much I decided I’d be much happier working with regular everyday people instead of athletes.
After over a decade of hard work I’ve gotten my in-person business to where I want, so I’m now building up an online business so I can help as many people as possible reach their goals. Through the process, I’ve continued to improve my own fitness and skills and can’t wait to see what I achieve in the future.
I’m so thankful that I can say I love my job and it is so rewarding to help people have a mentally and physically healthier life.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In order to have your own business, unfortunately, you have to do the corporate route for quite a while to build up a clientele.
Corporate gyms are very focused on money and as an intrinsically motivated person, it definitely took a lot of fun out of it. They also take a high percentage of your training which means I was pulling 60-80 hour weeks for the better part of my twenties. Going through those less than fun times helped me appreciate how good I have it now. It also taught me serious time management skills and I had to do a lot of soul searching and mindfulness training to survive which has helped me so much to find the right balance and true happiness in my life now.
I wouldn’t change a thing because I wouldn’t be the person I am now without those tough times.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I have become an expert in training the female body. The fitness industry is very male-dominated so women have not been well taken care of.
I’ve also perfected what I call hardcore physical therapy. Our sedentary lifestyles have made our joints a complete mess. I’ve learned how to strengthen the weaker muscles in people and stretch out the stronger muscles while making people look and feel better. I have several 70+-year-old clients that look amazing but also move like a 30-year-old which is so inspiring.
I’ve also figured out how to keep the heart rate up during this physical therapy so they lose weight, activate muscles and get stronger all in 30-minute sessions because let’s face it, there’s not enough time in the day!
How do you define success?
Really just being the best version of yourself. I think balance is an important part of life so I think when you are truly happy and satisfied with who you are, your personal life and your business life you’ve been successful.
