Meet Kollateral

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kody Robinson.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Born in Arizona, moved to Illinois from pre-k until high school graduation. Now back in AZ, doing what I want on my own schedule trying to make a name for myself.

Rapping since recess, making music has always been a part of my life. Fan-first and student of the game, I started out early because of my older brothers. From selling burned CDs in middle school, to meeting some of my favorite musicians in recent years, I know I still have a long way to go but the journey is the fun part.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a musician/songwriter, mainly for hip-hop/rap music. It’s something that’s been a part of my life as long as I can remember, and something I completely enjoy. You could call it my “escape”, writing and creating is therapeutic in itself for me. I’m mainly a vocalist/emcee, I write my own lyrics and record myself at my studio mostly. I couldn’t do this without the help of my producers and engineers though. I want people to know that you can do whatever you want to do if you put enough time and effort into it. If you love something, pursue it.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
As years go on, my definition of success surely has changed. To me, Success is once you’re satisfied with the work you’ve put in, and you’ve gone on to inspire and motivate your peers and the future of this world. Happiness & Consistency are major to me when it comes to characteristics of success for an artist.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Catch me every other month at some of the great venues in the Phoenix-area: Club Red, Crescent Ballroom, Shady Park, Pub Rock, amongst others.
