Meet Kiya Murphy of AmarPaz and Cool Apparel Printing in Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiya Murphy.

Kiya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m just a small town girl, livin’ in a lonely world… love that song. However, I am just a small town girl. Raised by a single mom, who is phenomenal and strong and smart and sacrificed everything for her three daughters. I am a passionate, caring, hardworking, thorough, funny, assertive mother of three. I am passionately curious and love helping others. For as long as I can remember, I have been a natural born leader. Leading, developing and serving others makes my soul happy. I’m a leader at a Fortune 500, and I work hard to build my own companies. I have a fantastic mentor who taught me how to lead and how to go after what you want. As cliché’ as this sounds, hard work pays off! I put my teams first and I don’t wait for someone to provide what my team needs, I go create it. Becoming the biggest cheerleader for those I work with and investing in their success is one of the reasons I do what I do.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road, uhm-no, but it hasn’t been all bad either. I missed time with my kids and family, and I’ve had to learn how to reign in my passion at times. I struggled with being labeled as aggressive when doing the same thing as my male counterparts. I learned to be unapologetic and authentic, to be humble and hardworking, all while being kind, yet firm. I struggled with wanting everyone around me to have the same mindset of excellence and understanding mediocrity isn’t an option. This was a tougher struggle to overcome and took some downfalls and denied promotions to get the picture. The minute I had to reflect and own how I may have unintentionally impacted my peers, I made it right. I personally apologized to everyone and to this day I work hard to become a better person, a more compassionate person. Be open to understanding others perspectives and never forget the Universe is always teaching. Work-life balance was another struggle of mine. When my youngest daughter was diagnosed with Lupus, I had no choice but to learn how to separate the two. I now have strict boundaries for when I shut off my work brain and activate my life brain. I’m happy to say, it’s working and I’m happier and less stressed. There will always be struggles, but it’s all about how you choose to look at them. I choose to see the positive. I choose to put positive energy into the Universe because I know it’s coming right back to me, plus who wants to be angry and grumpy all the time…not I, said Kiya.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
AmarPaz is as the name states, Love and Peace. Inhala amar, exhala paz. Be a love junkie- because love trumps hate any day of the week. Cool Apparel Printing is the company that’s been around the longest, and now I’m launching AmarPaz. Both are apparel printing companies that not only print apparel, towels, socks, pillowcases, and the likes but also prints my photography on the aforementioned and canvas. Under AmarPaz I also do photography, nature photography is my favorite. Lastly, I focus on developing and mentoring other women and volunteer work.

I’m most proud of the work I do and showing my kids and other women that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. Don’t allow anyone to put limits on you, be kind to everyone and make sure everyone around you is successful, there’s enough room for all of us at the top.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, our city is a good city for businesses like mine. You just have to hustle and go get it.
