Meet Kit’tanna O’Connor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kit’tanna O’Connor.

Kit’tanna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born on a little island called Trinidad and Tobago. Growing up there was amazing, always action packed and filled with adventure. My grandparents always pushed for me to become something greater than I am. My grandfather especially wanted me to become a doctor. Of course, later on in life, I learned that this is not what I wanted to do. When I moved to the United States, November 7th at age seven, I decided I wanted to be a vet. I thought about how perfect it would be taking care of animals all day. I had that goal until I was about 15 years old when I then moved to the idea of being a doctor. Specifically, an OB/GYN. It was only when I began working at a clinic and graduating from Arizona State University as a Biology major, that I realized that being a doctor, is not what I want to do. As much as my grandfather had that dream for me, it was his dream and unfortunately, it won’t make me happy. I ended up enrolling in a Master’s program that I believe would suit me better. In a year, I will be graduating with my Master’s of Psychology with an Emphasis in Life Coaching. Nothing is standing in my way and I’m so ready to begin helping people in the way I naturally know best, life coaching.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My road has always been bumpy, and it may always be. I have several stigmas against me by I carry them regardless. Many of the issues I have come across is because of where I am from, being female, or my skin color. None of these things are in my control, nonetheless, I love who I am and it took a long time to get there.

Please tell us about your work.
As of right now, I work for my medical clinic assisting patients with supplementary needs. However, since the company is expanding, I am pushing to have life coaching as a part of the services. From there I will be branching out to have my clients outside of the clinic. I am most proud of having something to call my own. Something I created from scratch that changes peoples live every day. I have a passion and a simply unparalleled drive. I have the belief that the Universe created certain individuals to uplift and carry others. That is why I am here.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ve gathered lots of help! Mainly from my parents. My mother and father spoke to me and pushed me every day to do my best. Even when I wasn’t feeling like doing anything. The next would be my faithful friends. They’ve always been honest and painfully truthful to me. They’ve been there when I’ve needed them the most. Always a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen.
