Today we’d like to introduce you to Kira Krick.
Kira, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Both Brian and I worked at a mental health hospital and saw the troubles these people face and how inadequate the mental health system is for them. He had the idea to provide walk-in available mental health support for those who need it when they are going through crisis and really need the support. We also realized that often times people who have mental health concerns, they also have physical health concerns as well; so we designed our center to provide services for both the mind and body. I personally offer Thai Bodywork sessions which consist of massage techniques that incorporate stretching and passive range of motion. One of my clients said, “It’s like having someone else do yoga for you and getting a massage all in one! It’s my favorite kind of bodywork!” I became interested in Thai Bodywork because of my acro-yoga practice which has a tendency to end in “leg love” which is the techniques focused on the legs and hips. I loved giving and receiving these techniques so much that I went to Thailand to learn more! Since 2015 I have been practicing Thai Bodywork and has gotten more confident and skilled along the way.
Brian and I prior to opening Walk in Wellness have been training, teaching and performing acro-yoga and partner acrobatics for 2 years now. We have brought this practice to the center in order to offer a way for people to try something new and get outside of their comfort zone. We love seeing the smile on our student’s faces when they are able to accomplish something that they originally thought was impossible for them to do. One of our goals is to broaden people’s perception of what they are capable of: whether that be doing a new acro-yoga pose, emotionally processing a past trauma that has been negatively affecting their life, making connections with new friends even if they are shy, finding relief from chronic pain, and overall finding joy in their lives.
I also am studying at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine to become a Naturopathic Physician. I am deeply motivated to help others to find ease from disease and pain in their lives in a way that works with their body and not by suppressing it with drugs. I believe that a lot of our physical pains originally manifested in emotional pains that have been stored in our body’s tissues. The more we can process and work towards healthy habits the more emotional and physical pain we can release to find joy and connection in our lives. It’s not always easy but it is worth it to live a life focused on healthy habits.
Has it been a smooth road?
The easiest part has been getting healing practitioners who are interested in being a part of our wellness center. The hard part has been getting clients to come in the door and then to get them to keep coming back. We definitely have a decent group of people who are super excited and love walk in wellness.
One thing we started doing is a monthly Healing Quest which is a big event consisting of 8 hours of different classes in our main room, 8-10 different healing modalities offering mini sessions in our treatment rooms, healthy food, connection with other like-minded people, chances to win 9 raffle prizes, vendors offering artwork and healthy food and discounts and deals on our goods and services during the event. This event has drawn a lot of attention to our business and excitement for our classes and services.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
