Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Diedrich.
Since moving to Maricopa in 2004, Kimberly Diedrich, owner of Home is Where The Hound is Pet Sitting has performed locally lost and found pet duties, coordinating and posting on local forums and acting as a point of contact for both Pinal County Animal Control Officers and the two local Veterinarians in Maricopa. As the human population in Maricopa has increased, so has the pet population, which has lead to a severe increase in lost and found pet cases. Trying to keep up with the increase pets has proven difficult.
PetSocialWorker.org started in 2007 as a place for animals available for adoption in Maricopa to be posted by rescue organizations and individuals helping to find forever homes for these pets. To consolidate information and offer local residents a place to go to find information if they have lost or found an animal, Kimberly added the lost and found service to PetSocialWorker.org in December of 2008.
Diedrich has collaborated with local veterinarians, the MASH mobile animal hospital, Pinal County Animal Care and Control, as well as the City of Maricopa and local websites and newspapers. If a report of a lost or found pet comes into either Vet or through contact with Kimberly, the information is posted on PetSocialWorker.org and posted via news feeds on the other websites.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road as a rescue can often be a painful journey to watch for some animals but as our community has grown, so has the support, volunteerism and those opening up their homes to foster the animals we commit to. Some days are harder than others but it is all worth it if we save a life.
We’d love to hear more about your organization.
We are a 501c3 animal rescue. We take in animals from the streets, as owner surrenders for families who have fallen on hard times and we pull dogs from the very overcrowded shelters when they are at risk of euthanasia. We are an army of volunteers focusing on those that can’t speak for or help themselves.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The City of Maricopa has grown so fast since incorporation in 2003 that along with growth, we have struggled with increased stray animals and animal care & control issues but we’re on the right track! Partnerships with the local vet office Maricopa Animal Hospital and the Pinal County Animal Care & Control shelter is key in the success of animal advocates like myself and our volunteers. As more and more open-minded, kind-hearted residents move in & care about our animal’s population, the better off we are.
