Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall McClelland.
Hi Kendall, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I always had a camera in my hand. I was that kid who uploaded all 108 photos to Facebook after a night out. (How embarrassing) And, It wasn’t until looking back now that I realized photography was something I should have pursued much sooner in life. I was 18 when I was first published. I had taken a photography course with my mom, and my parents had got me a beautiful camera. However, my lack of dedication left me going in circles for years. I would jump into photography, have a name, and be booked for a shoot or two, and then I would quit. After becoming a Mom, I lost myself, had depression, and fell into a dark place where I felt no purpose, but I loved my babies so much that I focused solely on them. Once I finally picked a camera back up, I knew something was different this time. I did not need anyone’s approval, and my future goals just blossomed right before my eyes. I contacted international photographer Kiera Jesselyn with Elite Ambitions Photography and asked her if she wanted to work together. I flew to Kelowna to take her course, and suddenly, my work was what I wanted to create. I started to feel more and more myself every day since I started building California Smoke Photography.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road is easy. There have been so many emotional, financial, and mental hurdles that I have overcome, and sometimes, looking back, it doesn’t seem real some of the things that I have been thrown. I am grateful as it has made me stronger than ever for never giving up and never being the “poor me” girl. I only like to share the good times in my life, the highs, and the moments that set my soul on fire. The hardships I keep private and share with my friends and family.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I am a creative content creator, aka a Photographer. Modern-day, street style, fashion fun, and ready to post!
We love surprises, fun facts, and incredible stories. Can you share something that might surprise us?
I had a stroke after my daughter was born, and it terrified me to think how easily life could be taken from you. I realized many things and slowly became the wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and person I wanted to be.
