Meet Kelsey Wilson of Liv for the Moments

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Wilson.

Kelsey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Photography was always a hobby of mine. I took thousands of pictures of my daughter after she was born. My husband got me my first DSLR the Christmas after she was born and I knew I really wanted to capture every moment of my kids with it.

It wasn’t until I lost my office job, that I really dove all in with photography. It was the perfect opportunity to create a business that I was passionate about. It allowed me to stay home with my two kids, make my own hours, and really do something that made me happy.

Because my business was inspired by my kids, it only made sense that the business name come from my daughter, Liv. They are my best models, after all! I am completely self taught, with the help of YouTube videos and lots of practice. I started offering little holiday family sessions last fall and never knew how much it would grow from there.

Here I am six months later and I can’t believe where this business has taken me. I’ve worked with dozens and dozens of kids, families, organizations, and friends, creating images they will cherish for a lifetime. I’m continuously learning and growing with each session and creating friendships with my clients all over the valley!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think with any business, there are going to be bumps. My biggest struggle has been marketing. Photography is an extremely competitive field to be in. It is hard to stand out, price yourself correctly and grow clientele.

Luckily, I have been fortunate enough to be growing at a steady pace over the months, but I know it is something I will have to continuously work on improving. I also had to learn how to run a business that people would take seriously.

In the beginning, I had so many people booked, and they would cancel on me last second. I changed the way I was booking people, and that helped significantly. Even though things have been running more smoothly, I know that there is still room for improvement in all aspects.

Please tell us about Liv for the Moments.
I offer a lot of different types of photography, so that I can reach a larger variety of people. I do everything from newborns to boudoir, except weddings. My specialty is family and children. Before I had my own kids, I was a toddler teacher and a nanny.

Because of my background with children (and now a mom myself), I really know how to connect with them. Photographing young children is no easy task. It takes a lot of patience and dedication and it is not for everyone. I’m really proud of the images I’ve captured with toddlers, especially when there are multiples!

On the flip side, I’ve really enjoyed my boudoir work. Working with adults is a little easier and boudoir is where I get to become creative in my photography. I think it is so important to lift other women up and show them their self-worth. Showing women how beautiful they are in their own skin has been incredible.

How would you describe the type of kid you were growing up?
Growing up, I was always the quiet one. I was shy in school. I only had a few close friends. I was never outgoing or popular. My only life goal/dream, when I was younger, was to be a mother and have a family.

It is funny to think I am 100% a different person! I am never quiet in social settings, always outgoing and make friends with people in the check out line at the grocery store.
