Meet Kelly Wilson-Prior of West USA Realty in Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Wilson-Prior.

Kelly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was in sales and marketing for nine years, where I was the Regional Field Marketing Manager for Pabst Brewing Company. I lead a team of four people in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and Dallas in their marketing efforts for the brand (mainly Pabst Blue Ribbon). I also headed up Phoenix at the time since it was in my backyard. Some of my largest contributions include setting up PBR Bowling Leagues, concert sponsorships such as the It’s Not Dead punk rock music festival in Southern California and PBR art around the Phoenix area. The company was doing massive layoffs back in 2018 and I was one of many casualties. After a few months of self-reflecting and realizing that I desperately needed to get out of the beer business (I had my daughter in August 2017 and the idea of traveling and working late nights was not so appealing any longer), I decided to take a chance on real estate and follow in my Mother-in-Law’s footsteps. She was a Realtor for 30 years and worked at West USA as well. I haven’t looked back since. I’ve been a Realtor for a little over a year now and I absolutely love it. I’ve been fortunate to hit the ground running. I’ve helped first-time home buyers and investors doing fix and flips and looking for extra cash flow. My clients are the best!! I’m blessed to work with amazing people every day and to work for a broker that feels like family. I LOVE my job!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Working with a coach at West USA was the smartest move I could have made as she helped me navigate my first few contracts. There are so many legalities involving this job that I felt that I needed support before I could take off the training wheels.

My biggest challenge oddly enough is marketing myself. It’s different being on this side of the spectrum but I’ve been figuring it out as I go. I’m currently investing in myself and building my Web site presence in hopes that people find me organically. I also didn’t have a network right off the bat but now I have amazing lender AND title partners and a home inspection company my clients love. I’m constantly building my database.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I work with the Mister Rogers Home Team. I’m big with helping first-time buyers find their starter home and investors find fix and flip properties as well as additional investments. I always answer my phone and if you catch me at a rare point where I don’t, I’ll call you back right away. People love my openness, responsiveness and drive. I’m very loyal and I treat my clients like family. I’m also very honest and I will tell it like it is. I don’t BS my clients and make false promises I can’t keep.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Investors finding me my first year in the business. One found me on Google and another found me on Facebook through an ad I posted.
