Meet Kelly & Matt Megyese of Illuminate You Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly & Matt Megyese.

Hi Kelly & Matt, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
We met at a health club over 25 years ago, and have since worked to maintain an active, balanced lifestyle. After relocating to Phoenix, we started Illuminate You Fitness (IYF) in 2019 as a means to share Kelly’s passion for barre, and our combined desire to encourage and support others in their wellness journeys.

Rather than go with a traditional brick-and-mortar platform, IYF was initially set up as a mobile studio offering fitness classes through collaborations with individuals and local businesses. The pandemic crisis meant a quick pivot in that plan – the result being a transition to an online barre studio offering live classes via Zoom, a growing on-demand video library, and affiliate relationships offering various products to our clients.

Although an online studio, IYF engages with the local community through collaborations and sponsorships. Some examples are hosting classes at local businesses and sponsoring the Tukee Trot and Million Lights 5K Fun Run in Ahwatukee.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Finding, attracting, and retaining new clients is always a challenge for new businesses. And starting a fitness company just months before the pandemic was a bit of a double-edged sword. Losing the opportunity to teach in person and grow our client base through a personal connection was tough.

But on the flip side, shifting to a fully online business model stripped away location limitations and led to a much broader customer base. Our current clients include some of our very first local customers – but most are located outside of Phoenix, as far away as New York City.

Illuminate You Fitness, or IYF is a micro business offering live online boutique barre classes from Phoenix, AZ to wherever you are. Our low-impact, full-body workouts are great for yourself, or as a healthy connection with family, friends, or co-workers. Give us a try with someone near or far, your first FIVE classes are free!

The IYF On-Demand Library features new content weekly and allows you to get in a stretch, combine videos, or complete a full-body workout on your time.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
IYF is a micro business meaning we operate on a very small scale with just two employees. While Kelly is the “face” of IYF as our class instructor, Matt is the one behind our website, branding, and marketing activities – all while maintaining a full-time corporate career.

Like any business, we hope to grow in the future but with the quality and attention to detail that our foundation is built upon today.
