Meet Kelly Kain of Mane Attraction Salon in Arcadia and Biltmore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Kain.

Kelly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Prescott, AZ and briefly, after turning 18, I moved to Phoenix. Most of my family resides in Prescott still but I knew I needed to move out of the small town to spread my wings. Shortly after moving to the valley, I took a tour at Toni&Guy Academy and was instantly blown away by how fascinating hair was to me. Coming from a small town that didn’t have fancy salons, or really people that spent a lot of time on their hair, it was all new to me and so exciting.

In about ten months’ time, I graduated from beauty school and was already working in a salon. I knew this was IT this was my thing and I couldn’t be happier. Unfortunately my first stop in a salon wasn’t my forever home. I yearned for a salon that gave me community, passion, and education. So I applied and talked with dozens of other salons and then landed my final mark on Mane Attraction Salon. A salon that has been around for a long time, dedicated to continuous education and had other outlets other than just being behind the chair. A salon that offered growth and opportunity to travel and expand my love for the beauty community and personal growth.

I started at M.A.S in July 2014, since then I have built a beautiful clientele base, became a color and cutting educator, traveled to world, built friendships, found my amazing partner, bought my first home, and grew more than I ever could imagine. Now looking into 2020, I can confidently say I am proud of who I am and what is to come. I struggled a lot in the past with the balance of discovering who I really was or why I was doing all this. Being as young as I was starting in the career, I would have never known how much achievement I could accomplish in such a short time. I also didn’t know how much growth it would bring into my personal life and open doors I didn’t even know existed. I am not sure exactly where I will end up in this industry but I am open to all the dips and turns it might take me to get there. Being an educator has brought me so much joy and awareness of who I am behind the chair, and even more so being aware of what a difference you can have on someone else’s life.

Has it been a smooth road?
Well, it definitely hasn’t been an easy road, however, I think that’s what makes it so rewarding and worth it. Most of my struggles ended up being money-related. I was living with different people, not living with people, bad relationships, fear of missing out. I struggled with trying to identify what my real responsibilities where and where my focus should have been. Trying to be an adult really. I really struggled with toxic people. I never realized how much I was setting myself back by not surrounding myself with positive, wholesome people. I learned to set personal boundaries and learned to let go of those that really didn’t support my goals and didn’t want to see me grow. To be honest it was extremely lonely a painful but necessary.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Hairdresser at Mane Attraction Salon. I am also on the education team. I teach both color and hair cutting techniques in our advanced training program. I am known for creative color, blondes, razor haircuts, and really anything creative. My proudest quality in our salon is our culture. We have a killer group of people that work together and help build each other up. Each and every single one of us are authentically different; we appreciate and accept all of our differences, and I think that’s beautiful.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
You can never shovel too much sunshine. It also has a lot of fun and a delicious food options and cool little hole in the wall bars and local shops. I wish it was cleaner and had more trees and greenery.
