Meet Kelli Shallal of Hungry Hobby Blog & What to Eat Meal Plans

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli Shallal.

Kelli, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In college, I set out to lose a little college weight and did everything wrong. I came from a house that knew nothing about nutrition, so I knew nothing about nutrition except that salads were healthy. I counted calories too low and did an excessive amount of cardio. Even though I did it the wrong way, I lost the weight and I was hooked on a healthy lifestyle so I decided to ditch my business degree in favor of going to grad school to become a Registered Dietitian. I’ve learned a lot since then about how to protect your metabolism, balance hormones, and do thing the way that gets the lasting safe results everybody is after. I started my blog right after grad school; I share tips, workouts, recipes, and a lot about life. This year, with the help of my best friend I, launched a meal planning service to help my blog readers and clients live a healthy lifestyle easier. I saw so many people struggling with finding the time to menu plan and shop; I decided to take a few steps out so that they could stick to their goals easier.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I had to learn that hard way that metabolism and hormones are more delicate than we think. It was a hard road but I ended up healing my hormones and metabolism so that I am now expecting my first child. I’m not able to help others balance hormones, get the results they want, and encourage them to live a truly healthy life.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hungry Hobby Blog & What to Eat Meal Plans story. Tell us more about the business.
I am first and foremost a nutrition coach. My clients are my first priority. I specialize in GI health and metabolism/hormone balance. However, I have clients who come to me for all different reasons. Another priority is my meal planning clients. Some of these clients receive custom meal plans, and some of them receive our weekly standard meal plans. Some of them sign up for additional coaching and some of them just prefer to receive the meal plans. It is my priority they are receiving what they need from us to live a successful healthy life. And my last priority is my blog readers, near and dear to my heart I’ve shared my own journey of health and fitness with them. I love chatting with them, sharing with them, and hearing from them. They are the reason I get up and publish a post five times a week. We have created a community that I wouldn’t want to live without!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am a big believer that if you put in enough effort luck will do the rest. There are times where I’ve put in a ton of effort to do something I believed I would get little back from, like a TV appearance cooking demo. Little do I know the right potential clients are watching and seek me out. It’s that kind of thing I have to remind myself, you never know what lucky break is around the corner if you put yourself in a place to receive that lucky break!
