Meet Kelli Meier of My Spine Solution

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli Meier.

Kelli, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Originally an international art director / graphic designer in Phoenix, AZ, I enjoyed the outdoors and fitness and transitioned into a multi-level certified fitness instructor and coach. I moved to Denver to grow my boot camp / Russian Kettlebell / CrossFit fusion style training approach to dynamic fitness back in 2007. In 2011 while on a mid-day mountain biking break from training, I fractured my face and knocked myself out upon jumping rocks along the trail. After a ranger found me and the team took me to the ER, I started having intense radiating pain into my left arm and hand. Within 4 months I lost all use of my left hand. The nerves in my neck were compromised by a disc herniation from the bike accident and I was now faced with a fusion surgery in the states. I stayed up all night for a week after my daily 5-6 training boot camps per day and finally found the option to have ADR (Artificial Disc Replacement) with the most state of the art disc (made in the U.S., but only available internationally).

The disc is called the M6 made by Spinal Kinetics in Sunnyvale, CA. It maintains motion of the spine in all six ranges of motion including compressive forces (due to its gel center) and maintains the natural six degrees of motion our bodies natural discs between each spinal level naturally have. After finding this as an option to avoid fusion which only locks the bones down and causes future fusions due to added motion stress in the spine at adjacent levels after a fusion, I immediately sent my MRI’s and X-rays to Germany for a review to determine if I could be a candidate for this kind of surgery. As an active person and in my early 40’s I was not ready for a life of future pain. I went to Germany for surgery 3 weeks later, and the day after my ADR with the M6 disc (which comes in 17 different sizes for each level of the lumbar and cervical spine), I woke the next morning and could pick up a full pot of coffee and pour it with my previously non-functioning left hand. It was a MIRACLE! I got my life in an instant, I just had to travel to Germany to do it.

After returning to the states, I took my international marketing history and told the Germans I wanted to help them market the possibilities that are available and make it easier for suffering people all around the world to find this ADR as a solution to end their suffering as well. We met in San Francisco in November of 2011, we visited the Spinal Kinetics facilities in Sunnyvale, CA, and we started a vision to help more people find this as a solution to their radiating neck and low back pain. “My Spine Solution” was created and I developed all of the web site marketing to get the word out to the world. All inquiries come directly to me from prospects all around the world every day that I respond to with information on how we can help determine if they are a candidate for motion preservation of the spine with the M6 disc implant done by our spectacular surgeons in Germany that have done over 1,500 ADR surgeries and our surgeon Dr. Bierstedt is the first and only surgeon to successfully use the M6 at 4 levels of the cervical and lumbar spine to give patients a pain free life and motion preservation to enjoy every activity they ever could have imagined.

The surgeons I work with and send prospective patients to in Germany are Dr. Bierstedt and Dr. Illerhaus, and that is because of their precision and attention to detail with each and every patient. After my surgery in September of 2011, I decided I wanted to help others more. I decided to not only create “My Spine Solution”, but also go back to school to become a chiropractor and acupuncture specialist. I spent my next four and a half years studying to become the best chiropractor / acupuncture doctor with the most amazing doctors on the planet to help as many people find relief of pain and when conservative treatment no longer helps I have the next level of help with artificial disc replacement. To date, patients all around the world have found a better future life worth living and that makes me very happy and proud to have helped others find what I found and get their life back as did I.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely a smooth road, the hardest part was going back to school for four and a half years to become the person I was destined to be. Life is a journey and it does lead us when we accept it and let life lead us.

Now a Chiropractor and Acupuncturist in north Phoenix I would say my biggest struggle is getting others to understand they have options and that means options to avoid fusion surgery, a life of drugs and medications, and the value of: 1) Conservative therapy always a first line of body defense, Choose Chiropractic and Acupuncture. 2) If conservative therapy is not providing a solution, motion preservation is your next level of permanent intervention! 3) Insurance is not there to help you, they help themselves and so do drug companies keeping you on the hook. Get off the cycle and take control of your own future, choose the best solution to live the rest of your life! That is the best advice I could ever give anyone!

My Spine Solution – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My Spine Solution is the company I developed after my surgery in Germany to get MY LIFE Back! Then I went back to school to become “Simply In Demand Chiropractic”, because “It is better to feel extraordinary than ordinary!” Personally, I specialize in getting other people out of pain. I am known as the “gentle chiropractor, acupuncture without the use of needles to treat over 2000 health-related conditions and I am the U.S./International Liaison for MySpineSolution.com. I help people find solutions that nobody else will. What sets me apart is my experience on the other side of pain and loss of body function. Losing my life as a trainer, active fitness junkies that no longer could open a bottle or jar or hold something in my hand without dropping it. I can relate, I’ve been there, and when patients come to see me, or emails from prospective surgical patients all around the world come to me, I can talk with them on a personal level and comfort them that there are possibilities out there and I can help them find that light in the darkness of despair.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
My proudest moment so far would be: all the connections with great healers (those that would not even call themselves that, but call themselves vessels for healing), that have helped so many people and the impact they have made on my life and my journey to get to where I am today. To be amongst them as part of that group is an amazing gift. It is priceless.
