Meet Keira Schultz of KSDesigns LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keira Schultz.

Hi Keira, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in Interior Architecture as an undergraduate then ended up changing majors and received a degree in Textiles. Years later after raising my two children, I went back to school and received a Post-Bacc degree in Interior Design. I had always known it was what I wanted to do as a career, it just took me a while to get here. While I was in school for Interior Design, I took a contract job as an in-house designer for a contractor and landed my studio’s first interior furnishings project at the same time. It was quite a whirlwind. Fortunately, my studio design business slowly began to grow and enabled me to go out on my own full-time. There were many highs and lows along the way, countless nights and weekends spent working, but I am now in the 11th year of running my studio. Although it can still be scary at times depending on the market, we now have a steady flow of projects. Another dream of mine was to have a store. The gradual success of the full service design studio enabled me to add a home furnishings and accessories storefront to our studio.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would not say it has been a smooth road. There were times that I felt overworked and unsure if it was worth it. I definitely had to learn to roll with the highs and lows that come with owning and growing a small business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a full service interior design studio specializing in bespoke client-focused residential projects. We pride ourselves on creating spaces that represent our clients and how they live. We have a home furnishings and accessories shop as well at the same location. We are the only shop of our kind in Flagstaff offering a destination for gifts, bedding, home accessories, and furniture. Every piece in the store is hand picked to give a thoughtfully curated feel as soon as you walk in.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Having great working relationships with both clients & trades/vendors and feeling good about the work we do.
