Meet Keenan Andrus of LBCKee in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keenan Andrus.

Keenan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got started into making videos at a young age, I would say when I was 14 when Vine was popular my brother and I would make Vine videos around the house. I really did not take it seriously until I graduated high school. One of my best friends bought a camera and he always uses to practice his video/photoshoots on me and he let me borrow his camera a few times. During my freshman year in college, I use to make football highlight videos for my friends who were seniors at the time and it was going pretty well. I had no idea what I was doing, I just did what felt right and somehow made it look good. For some odd reason, I stopped making videos for a whole year and to this day, I do not know why I stopped it just happened and I just never got back to it. I started doing YouTube and I wanted to edit my own videos, so I began practicing editing videos of me around the house until my friend Frank asked me to go to our friend Terrell’s house, who makes music videos, and we went with him to his video shoot and the rest is history. That day I shot my first video and became obsessed every since with becoming great at my craft.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has been the most challenging/rewarding thing I have ever done in my life. The road has not been smooth at all but I never gave up and I am glad I did not otherwise, I would not be making videos today. Being a full-time student, working a part-time job and going to Los Angeles every other weekend is tough but I somehow manage to control these things very well. In the beginning, I had family members telling me to stop doing videos to focus on school but I did not listen to them at all and did my own thing. As I have gotten better at my craft they are slowly starting to come on but I appreciate the ones that did not try to convince me to do something else.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I specialize in filmmaking. To me, I am extremely versatile when it comes to making videos as no video idea is a challenge for me. I can do it all, I can do wedding videos, music videos, sports highlights, event recaps any video you need I can do it. The part I am proud of, to say the least, is how far I have come within the past year. The progression I made and the advancements I made I would have not expected this to happen so fast it is crazy on what has transpired within the past year. What separates me from others is my creativity is off the charts. I can shoot a video in 1 location and make it seem like we traveled across the world and back. The ideas I have may sound ridiculous but once you see it after I make the video it leaves you in awe.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up for me was pretty common for most kids, I played football and basketball went to school the normal routine. I was never the kid who did what everyone did, I always was focused on being different than everyone else. You can see that in my friend group, as we were all different compared to our peers in school. When I got to high school, that was when I established my work ethic that I still have to this day. I was always up super early and always went to bed late and repeated this cycle for years. It even rubbed off on my friends and teammates as they would see for themselves as what I was doing. I can say growing up I inspired a lot of people and I will continue to do so.
