Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Wilson.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
When I was about 10 years old, my grandma taught me how to embroider simple designs. I practiced here and there growing up but eventually found it to be a fun hobby for me about 3 years ago. I find embroidery to be very therapeutic for me and I enjoy expressing myself artistically through my work.
Please tell us about your art.
I am an embroidery artist. I have embroidered shirts, pillow cases, towels and jean jackets. However, I mostly embroider items that can be used as home or office decor. The items used for decoration stay in the bamboo embroidery hoop (to act as a frame) and can be hung on a wall or propped up. I love creating things that are meaningful and sentimental to people. Whether that be an embroidery dedicated to a couple’s marriage date or a quote they like to live by. My inspiration comes from many directions. Some of which include nature, someone’s love story, flower bouquets, and beautiful color stories. The biggest takeaway I want people to find from my art, is that art doesn’t always have to be traditional to mean something to them. Whatever the heart yearns for from an artistic standpoint, is what art should mean to them and I hope my embroidery pieces can propel them in that direction.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
If you have a passion for something, art or otherwise, just got for it! Don’t be afraid of failure. I know it sounds cliché but just do what makes you happy and follow your dreams.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Any and all support is greatly appreciated. Most of my work is posted to my Instagram account @lacedindreams or my Etsy shop Laced in Dreams.
