Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Iten.
Kayla, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up a true Midwestern girl! Born in Minnesota, then lived in Illinois, Wisconsin and went to college in South Dakota where I studied psychology and child development. My husband and I made the move to Arizona and it was terrifying but has turned out to be an incredible decision. I took my first nannying job as a summer nanny while in college, then took another right after college with the intention of it being a temporary position. I ended up staying with that family for over six years and never looked back. Since then, I have worked with three other families long term for nearly 14 years total as a house manager/nanny and newborn specialist. When we moved here, I took some time interviewing with agencies and came across All About Nannies and quickly bonded with the former owner, Cindy. For a few years, I worked with her at the agency doing background screens and reference checks and we bonded quickly. When it was time for her to retire she made me an offer I couldn’t refuse and I quickly accepted an offer to step into ownership of All About Nannies and couldn’t be happier to be with this agency!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am a huge believer that anything worth doing is worth some effort and hard work. For me to go from working as a house manager and being busy all day long to working from home in a quiet office has been an adjustment on its own. I have been on a mission to maintain the incredible word of mouth reputation of All About Nannies while expanding on marketing and advertising.
Finding people quality nannies to care for their children, to trust with the most important things in their lives is no small task! We have amazing nannies at All About Nannies, but placements will never be something I take lightly. Every placement is naturally a little bit stressful to make sure we are placing the absolute best person possible for each family. Every nanny is different, and every family has different wants and needs. The matchmaking that goes along with successful placements is a big job! But it is a job that I feel blessed to be able to do.
We make every effort to take care of our nannies as well as the families. I truly feel like nannies will perform better when they are taken care of, respected and valued and families will only benefit from this. Making sure we take on quality families who will take good care of their nannies is a huge factor in our success. I hear from our nannies often that they can tell how much they are cared for with All About Nannies and that makes it all worth it.
Please tell us about your business.
I own All About Nannies! We are a full service nanny agency local to the valley since 2002. We offer placements for full and part time nannies, house managers and newborn care specialists. All of our caregivers are highly experienced, fully vetted, and current on CPR/First Aid certifications. Many of our nannies have additional certifications ranging from sleep training, newborn specialist, various nutritional certifications or continuing ed courses on various forms of child development.
We specialize in full time nanny, house manager and newborn care specialist placements for career level caregivers, this is most certainly what we are known for and the agency has been built almost entirely on word of mouth referrals from former clients!
We also have a suite of baby concierge services for new and expectant families! We offer custom baby registries and registry management, nursery design, nursery organization and set up, baby gear demos, hospital bag prep and packing and homemade fresh baby food prep packages. These are amazing for new families and have been popular gifts for baby showers as of late! Any of these services can be purchased individually or as a custom package.
What I am most proud of is the relationship I have built with the nannies! They trust me to make sure they are taken care of and will come back to All About Nannies as soon as they are ready for a new family!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Without a doubt, the most important factor to our success is the relationships built with each nanny and family individually. We go above and beyond to make sure we get to know each person who comes to the agency for a nanny or as a nanny. I tell each family that I am going to be their best friend until we find them their perfect nanny. With the nannies, I make every effort to be accessible to them. They know they can call, text or email me anytime and will get a response. They know they can come to me with questions or concerns and they will get support from me anytime!
