Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaye Manjares.
Kaye, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My family and I have been practicing the ketogenic way of eating since May of 2018. We decided to make this lifestyle change after I did extensive research online on the best healthy diets that work. I found that the keto diet works great for people that may have celiac disease, diabetes and many other health issues.
I have always had a sweet tooth and found it hard to curb those cravings. I found that it can be hard to find items that are keto and enjoyable either while shopping or dining out. This dilemma prompted me to begin focusing on making my keto creations at home so that my family and I can enjoy healthier sweet treats. In doing so, I found that I can enjoy something that tastes great and is also keto, low carb, gluten and sugar-free.
After joining Facebook keto groups and following others on Instagram following the ketogenic diet, I found that others had the same dilemma with finding tasty keto dessert options. Since I have a culinary background having attended Le Cordon Bleu Scottsdale, I thought why not make these types of items available for others that will help them curb their sweet tooth’s as well and still be able to stay in ketosis. We believe that just because you may be on a diet, either by choice or have health restrictions, does not mean that you have to miss out on having your cake and eating it too.
After months of trying out different recipes and learning how to substitute all of the right ingredients, I contacted Momma’s Organic Market in Peoria to inquire about becoming a vendor. After acquiring all of the necessary licensing, we attended our first farmers market in October of 2018. We started with 1 table and a few boxes full of our keto items and went from there. We offer a variety of decadent treats to fit various diets and lifestyles such as biscuits, bread, cake squares, cookies, cupcakes, handheld bars, mini bundt cakes and muffins. Even if you are not keto we also offer low carb, gluten-free and sugar-free options including some that are egg and nut-free.
We quickly realized how popular not only the diet, but our products became and have been growing ever since. What started as me baking in a small corner of the kitchen with my KitchenAid has now grown to transform my home kitchen into a mini bakery.
Since our start in 2018, we have been blessed with the opportunity to work and collaborate with others about our keto journey. We have created keto recipe segments with Grateful & Co., an affiliate of USA Today that can be found online and was circulated in local newspapers nationwide. Since then we have been receiving an influx of emails from across the country asking for our products. We are currently working on expanding our operation and providing nationwide shipping in the near future.
Has it been a smooth road?
We have had a fairly smooth ride growing at our own pace. We are new business owners and are not trying to get ahead of ourselves too quickly. We enjoy being a local small business and being able to provide a quality product to our customers.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We take pride in being a veteran-owned local small business. All of our products are consciously made with health in mind. We cater to those who cannot eat traditionally made desserts by creating our own that are keto, low carb, gluten-free, grain-free and sugar-free with some items that are also egg and nut-free. We use quality organic ingredients and everything is homemade.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love how diverse the city is and how it is constantly growing.
