Meet Kay Zilla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Zilla.

Hi Kay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My love for music started when I was about 7 years old in a third-world country named (Sierra Leone) in the middle of a civil war. Everything around me was chaos & death, and music was the only thing peaceful.

Music has life & as I grew older, the music in me also grew my interest in the artistry & creation of music. I was fortunate to move to the United States shortly after the war, and I immediately felt the need to tell my story. It was clear to me that the perfect way to tell my story is through music.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a bit of a roller coaster. I’ve taken some losses that I’ve turned into lessons. And one of the biggest losses I took was the death of my cousin. He was a big part of the music & everything I had & or have going on.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an independent artist by the name of Kay Zilla. I’m a versatile lyricist from a different part of the world & my story separates me from the rest. I’m most proud of my peers. The people I keep around me are my biggest inspirations & I’m most proud of their achievements.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think it’s important to take risks. I think that’s what sets you apart from the rest. I see it as an opportunity to grow as you step out of your comfort zone, you learn more about yourself & especially areas that need improvement.

I took a big risk by quitting my 9 to 5 so I can pursue my dreams full-time. It was a rough transition at first but as time went on, things just started falling into place.
