Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Zimmerman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Katie. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I am an attorney and adoptive mother, who left the active practice of law to help people in their adoption journeys. Navigating the intricacies of domestic infant adoption can be so confusing and overwhelming, so I wanted to use my personal experience and legal knowledge to help guide others through the process.
I help people across the country adopt more quickly, less expensively, and more ethically. I refer my clients to experienced, ethical adoption professionals for home studies and placement services, design their adoption profiles and adoption outreach materials, and guide them step by step through the process.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been much easier to get started than I expected. There is so much conflicting information out there about adoption, and it can be such an overwhelming process that I found quickly that there was truly a need for our services, and the business has grown quickly over the last year.
Please tell us about Purl Adoption Advisory.
I specialize in assisting families with the domestic infant adoption process. Families typically contact me when they are just beginning to think about domestic adoption, or when they have been waiting awhile with an adoption agency.
I help my families get on many different waiting lists of ethical adoption professionals so that they can adopt more quickly, and often much less expensively, than waiting with one large adoption agency. I am the adoptive parents’ advocate throughout the process, and I direct them to various adoption professionals during their journey while holding their hand (oftentimes virtually) the whole way.
I provide them information on adoption funding, resources and other information necessary for their journey. I contract with experienced graphic designers to design the perfect adoption profiles and outreach materials for my families, which helps present themselves in the best light possible for an expectant parent considering adoption for their child.
There are very few adoption advisors like me available, either in Arizona or nationwide. I’m unique from other large adoption consulting companies in that I network with smaller, more affordable adoption agencies and more adoption attorneys who do matching, so many of my families adopt less expensively than they would if they were to utilize a different adoption consultant.
What are you striving for, what criteria or markers have you set as indicators of success?
My personal definition of success in this business would be whether my families feel supported throughout their adoption experiences. Adoption will always have heartache, as there inevitably are adoption disruptions, but I hope my families feel that I provided the resources to them to help them overcome the heartache and ultimately grow their family successfully through adoption.
