Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Mann.
Katie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I initially went to college and got a degree in dietetics. Unfortunately, I wasn’t really sure what to do with this degree so I applied to nursing school on a whim. When I finished nursing school, I went to work in a hospital but quickly found it wasn’t for me. At this point, I felt pretty frustrated with myself because I had two bachelor’s degrees and still didn’t know what I wanted to do with my career! I had a friend who did home health nursing and convinced me to come work with her, so I did. During this time, I also discovered the field of aesthetics and was able to get my foot in the door, but I was new and didn’t have enough patients to make aesthetics my career. I had also started a doctorate program to become a nurse practitioner, so at this point I was working two jobs and going to school! Luckily I only had to continue working in home health for the first year I was in aesthetics, then was able to transition to just aesthetics full time. Fast forward five years and I finally finished my doctorate program and am enjoying “just” working in a career that I love!
Has it been a smooth road?
Everyone has struggles, I would say the hardest thing for me was staying motivated in my doctorate program while also building a career in medical aesthetics. It was difficult to sit at home and do homework every weekend and continually say no to fun, social events but it paid off in the end! I am proud to be able to look back on what I have achieved (and proud of myself for not giving up when I wanted to quit school).
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a family nurse practitioner specializing in medical aesthetics. My business is called Method Aesthetics and I focus and specialize in natural results. I perform services such as dermal fillers, Botox/Dysport, Vivace radio frequency microneedling, and skincare. I have the best clients- most people who come to see me don’t want over the top lip filler or an unnatural-looking face. They want to look like a refreshed version of themselves and be happy when they look in the mirror makeup-free. Many patients are concerned that they are just being vain, but I always say there is a difference between being vain and being comfortable and confident in your skin. Aside from being known for natural results, my patients also come to me for an honest opinion- they know that I’m not just there to take their money and send them on their way. Many of my clients have come to me for years and we have great relationships! I also try to be very gentle when I am injecting and make the process as pain-free as possible.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Scottsdale is the number one city for Botox. There are a lot of businesses that offer med spa services so it can be tough to get started now but there are plenty of patients to go around. Everyone has their own style and personality and will attract the right clients if they can stick it out long enough.
