Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Angell.
Katie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It’s kind of a funny story. I was going to school to become a pharmacist and had been a pharmacy technician for seven years. I chose pharmacy because I’ve always wanted to help people. I also have always enjoyed doing my own makeup and had some experience in makeup sales. Being a pharmacy technician was rewarding, but I found myself getting tired of the same day to day schedule. I realized I wanted something more for myself and wanted to find a way to help people and be happy and fulfilled.
As long as I can remember, my mom has wanted me to get into the beauty industry because I was always so adamant about skincare and makeup products. I often was complimented on my skin and makeup. Being complimented on how you look always makes you feel good, builds your self-esteem and confidence. Having a job that I loved and enjoyed doing was important to me. I decided to get my makeup certification while finishing my arts degree. I began practicing makeup on family and friends and truly enjoyed every minute. Since then, I have built my own brand and business. Over the last two years, I have established clientele and have done many weddings, graduations and photoshoots. I can honestly say I feel like I’m right where I’m supposed to be and couldn’t be happier.
Has it been a smooth road?
Achieving a dream is never easy. However, I am extremely passionate about what I do and I am determined to have a long career in this industry. I’ve worked very hard to get where I am at today. I have also been very fortunate to have the support of my family, my friends and my clients. Any business owner knows you can’t have a successful business without having satisfied clients and support.
Please tell us about Angell Eyes Beauty.
I am a professional certified makeup artist specializing in bridal makeup. I travel all around Arizona, from Southern Arizona To Northern Arizona. I do many different looks but am known primarily for natural glam and soft glam makeup. This style enhances a woman’s natural beauty. The bridal industry is such an important and huge industry. I chose this field because there is something so rewarding about helping women feel pampered, special and beautiful on one of the most important days of their lives. There is no greater feeling than handing a bride the mirror and seeing the expression on her face as she’s trying to hold back her tears or hearing her say “Wow, it looks amazing, I’ve never felt more beautiful”.
My job is so much more than just applying makeup. I am required to be organized, timely, calm, helpful, friendly and outgoing. It is imperative that the bride remains calm, happy and stress-free. As a makeup artist, it is part of my job to make that happen. It is such a rewarding job.
What’s your favorite memory from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is taking family vacations every year to San Diego, California. My grandparents had a house on the bay and my mom, dad, brother and I would go visit them at least twice a year. I remember playing light-up football with my dad and brother on the bay at night and making s’mores and watching the fireworks with everyone. We would have a picnic on the beach everyday and my mom would always take me shopping at all the fun little clothing stores.
My brother and I would ride scooters all the way up the bayside and race all the way back to grandma and grandpa’s house. Just talking about this now brings such a huge smile to my face. Those were the happiest times. Family is everything.
