Meet Kathie Takach of ProjekK Studio in Tucson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathie Takach.

Kathie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Started hairdressing in 1983, from the Vidal Sassoon school. have worked ever since while racing mountain bikes and traveling all over B.C. and the western U.S. came to Az first in the early ’90s and settled in Tucson in ’94 eventually trading the race bike for a rescued racehorse Lois. Competed in eventing with many horses that were given to me with behavioral issues but became jumpers and sold. Coming to my senses in 2007 after breaking my pelvis, I renounced the horse slave trade and kept the last five horses as pets, four are still with me in their mid-20s. I have rescued dogs as well and hope to one day take care of donkeys and other equids.

For the last few years, I have been busy mountain biking again in the beautiful mountains surrounding Tucson, enjoying the perfect climate and amazing bio-regions, the wonderful flora and fauna. The studio projekK is my private hair and art space in an old hacienda art colony. After working in a very busy 4th ave district salon for almost 18 years, opening projekK was a dream come true where I could use the organically and biodynamically grown essential oil product line Oway and make sure every client leaves in a blissful state. To do no harm to all Life is my goal. Live Simply That Others May Simply Live…

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Just had the 8 year anniversary, i feel it has been easy for me but also extremely challenging. my lifelong role as a hair artist working at large salons enabled a complete disconnect from the business side while the real world of nature and sports took up most of the hours in a week. A wake up call for sure!  the first thing i did was search online and found “the 10 questions to answer before opening a small business” and followed the instructions. there was a time for everything, being responsible for myself felt empowering and has motivated me in all the aspects of life, including creating vegan food, painting the horse muses, pushing to learn new bike skills and staying open to change.  Research, more research, gather resources and Launch!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with ProjekK Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The Oway products for sure and i guess my years in the hair industry. i have been lucky to have great mentors my whole life and continue to practice the craft and stay au courant.  the 1 person studio specializes in Oway colour and products, U.K. inspired haircuts honoring the natural texture.  it is a vegan and cyclist friendly very peaceful spot to visit. some of my clients have been with me for over 20 years in Tucson.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
