Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Snow Cocuzza.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
For as long as I can remember I have felt the need to preserve whatever beauty stops me in my tracks, from pressing flowers to sketching portraits, to painting, and photography. I love capturing fleeting moments in the world as I see it especially in people.
Please tell us about your art.
I create images by either painting or with photography and Photoshop to kind of bottle the magic I feel or see in the world and in people. My hope is that through my art, people will see the world, each other, and themselves as more beautiful, more precious, and more powerful than they had before.
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
We seem to be in between two eras: the traditional, and the digital. Traditional artists are struggling to keep up with the demands of online marketing, and internet savvy artists seem to struggle with finding legitimacy offline. We’ve never had more tools and access to inspiration, networking, and selling our work, but to be recognized and upheld within your community as an artist, and within the art community, it takes time, luck, money, experience, and thick skin for a start. Of course, artists would benefit by having more opportunities to show their work offline, but art needs to be valued by our culture for that to be happen, and that starts by teaching the value of art in our schools.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My portfolio is on my website: www.dalahawk.com as well as on Instagram and Facebook. My work is also on display at the Southern Arizona Artist’s Guild Gallery in Tucson. Buying prints or booking me for a shoot would be the best way to support what I do!
