Meet Kate Partridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Partridge.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Photography has always been a part of my life. My Great Grandfather worked for Kodak and was on the team that helped develop the first color film. My dad has been taking breathtaking landscape shots and “styled” shots of his fishing expeditions for as long as I can remember. It was very natural for me to pick up a camera, starting in middle school for the yearbook committee. From yearbook and high school photography classes I not only developed my love for the process of developing and creating my art but also learning how to use my artistic “eye”.

I honed my skills in college photojournalism and a few years ago decided it was time to step off the corporate ladder and feed the creative fire that was burning inside me. I opened my photography business and I became a professional photographer and have loved every moment of capturing my clients as well as my growing family. I am based in Tucson and love all this quirky little desert town has to offer. Arizona has my heart. Photography is part of my soul and to be able to share that with people is truly a gift.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is capturing people as their true selves and creatively showcasing details of the life event I have been chosen to capture. My goal is always to capture the joy and emotion of a life moment. Whether that be getting married, celebrating a milestone birthday or welcoming new life into the world. Not only is it being way to preserve the memory but also a way to freeze that moment in time for my clients. I hope that for my clients my photography captures the essence of the life event they have chosen me to capture for them and to ensure that they look back on the event and can truly feel how wonderful it was just by looking through their pictures.

Photography is true visual storytelling. I try to keep it fresh and fun and really enjoy all that I do. It is a true honor to be chosen to capture life’s greatest moment. I hope that with every moment and emotion I capture my clients and really my family as well, are just as happy looking at the pictures as they were in the moment!

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
As a photographer, success for me is the moment when the client sees their photographs and they are overjoyed by what their gallery holds. Being able to provide that joy is everything. For me personally, success is honing in on my creativity and being able to produce and capture images that truly and accurately capture that emotion of the moment.

Part of that success is really building relationships with my clients. I try to get to know them a little before capturing their event or life moment so that I can really get their “best side”, their most natural “poses” and their true selves. I have got to be able to pull back the curtain a little so that I can get to the heart of magic. If I display that magic in my photographs then I have truly done my job as well as fulfilled my artistic vision.
