Meet Karla Wear of Sweet Cravings in Maricopa City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Wear.

Karla, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up my mom had a recipe book that she used for baking, Carrot Cake was always my favorite cake to make with her. I think that is where my love for baking started, in the kitchen next to my mom. I wanted to be able to share that bonding experience with my own children one day. I have always enjoyed being in the kitchen cooking and baking, having a sweet tooth runs in my family! My sister in law asked if I could make her some teacher appreciation cookies so I went on a limb and shared a picture of the sugar cookies I made, and the rest is history.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a smooth road for the most part. I would love to eventually own a storefront here in our city of Maricopa, I am sure there will be some struggles along the way but I have a great support system.

Please tell us about your business.
I specialize in decorated sugar cookies, cupcakes and cakes, but I offer so much more. From chocolate dipped pretzels to rice crispy treats, wedding cakes and dessert tables for parties. I have a sweet tooth so I am always baking up treats, and I tend to share a post of what’s available for the day. What sets me apart from others is I like to bake different items (whatever I’m craving for the day) and I like to share that with others so I share it on my Facebook page. So customers don’t have to always place an order, they can follow my page and see what is available for the day!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to continue to expand my business. I would love to own a storefront someday, but for now, I would be happy to be able to set up a booth at different farmer’s markets on the weekends. Due to working a full time job I haven’t been able to participate at events in the past.
