Meet Karina Romero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Romero.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Karina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started doing makeup because I wanted to make people feel beautiful because I did not feel that way growing up. I am a professional makeup artist and I am in the process of loving myself more.

Let me tell you why:

I grew up surrounded by love, I have amazing parents, and felt fortunate with the life that I had as a kid growing up. I grew up next to the ocean, with friends that I consider my sibling’s today. But I was missing something very important: Self-love.

I grew up feeling self- conscious, I was overweight since I was little and food made me feel happy (still does). I was very strict with myself, always trying to be better in school, etc… and always pleasing others (that made me feel happier).

Makeup was my passion and making people feel beautiful (inside and out), so I have been doing makeup since I was 16 years old, mainly as a hobby when I started. Professionally, over six years.

While working, I realized that there was something aside from makeup that I needed to learn, like how to make your skin glow, and how to make my clients feel good about themselves even without makeup.

That’s when I decided to start my second career, but this time with a totally different spin, in what I felt passionate about since I was a little girl. Skin care!

Two years ago, I began to study at Aveda Institute, enrolling in the Aesthetician program. I did it, I gave my 110% while having a very difficult schedule, work, and being a very dedicated mom. I don’t know how I got the energy and courage to complete the program, but I did it with honors and recognition. Now, I am a licensed Aesthetician in Arizona and feeling proud of myself.

I am the type of person that believes that all dreams can come true, It’s all about working hard, having discipline, and love for what you do. That is why I believe that a majority of us get self-abandoned by being pressured on our own goals, taking care of our home, family, and we put aside our self-love, and our personal care (which is very important!).

Each one of us needs to start loving your own self and have conscience of what is most important, our health, our emotions, and the way we see ourselves in front of a mirror.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been easy to get to where I am today, coming from a different country, and culture; and Spanish being my first language to begin with. The language barrier has been a constant struggle, however I never stop practicing and learning. Everyday I push myself through the insecurities in my head, and always believe my hard work and dedication will be worth it in the end.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am licensed aesthetician and a licensed makeup artist, I specialize in skin care and highlighting natural beauty. I am known for educating my clients on the important of skincare and making them feel beautiful in their own skin, with or without makeup. I feel proud to have build together a team that is prepared, dedicated and that loves what they do, which is to see a happy client walk out loving themselves more.
